Also available for non dual core AMD 64 setups http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_9706,00.html

Why would a CPU need a driver? That's just silly.

The driver is needed for running X2 CPU's some games.

Why would it need a driver for that? The kernel is responsible for symmetric thread handling. It already has that built in.

It's needed somehow for CnQ to work properly. At least that is what I've read. Other than that - it shouldn't really be a necessity.

It adds some lines to the win.ini file, some games have problems without the driver.

If all it does is assist with CnQ, I'll pass. I don't use that on account that a lower CPU clock, reduces crunch time on DC projects. Yeah, I want to maximize my credit scores, even if it does mean using a tad more electricity by not throttling the CPU down, to get more WUs crunched sooner :D

With those apps attempting to push the CPU @ 100% I don't think CnQ would ever actually be utilized even with the driver there. It probably would do nothing at all in that case. If your CPU usage dropped down far enough then that might be another story.

Odd, I wasn't aware AMD had drivers for their CPU's. I'm going to try the non dual core drivers for my 3700+ & hope I get a slight boost in performance. :p :)

It does more than that. I have CnQ disabled but I still needed the driver for some games to function properly and for general stability. It mostly resolves the need to set the affinity option and in my cause solved lockup type issues.

I see 1.3.1, thanks for the link.

not really, if you think about it, more then 4 processors need a special driver (HAL)to function

Try looking under "windows driver package".
