I have a machine with no AGP port. I want to put in an nVidia card with as much oomph as possible into one of the PCI slots. I use the machine primarily to play City of Heroes.
My local CompUSA has two 256 PCI cards with nVidia chipsets, both by BFG. One is a geforce 6200 the other is an FX.
Should I get one of these two cards, or is there a better one I could get from some online store (maybe a 512)? If not which one is better, or are they about the same?
Out of those two, get the 6200. Stay away from the FX series it at all possible. Yeah, check around online too.

The stuff above the line I can swing, easy. The stuff below the line I can do in a pinch, but only if I'm gonna be REAL happy with the improvement in performance.
So, of those, how do I determine the best option?
Thanks again.
Some of the ones you mentioned above are PCI-Express .. does your mobo have PCI or PCI-E slot ?? theres a difference.
between the 2 you mentioned however , the 6200 is better.

I have two PCIe slots and one PCI slot.
And I suppose for me it boils down to these three:
PNY GeForce 7600 GT
Graphics Adapter, 256MB GDDR3, PCIE
$200
Jaton NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GT
Graphics Adapter, 256 MB GDDR3, PCI Express x16
$360
PNY GeForce 6800 GT
Graphics Adapter, 256MB DDR3, PCIe
$360
If I bite the bullet and shell out $360, am I going to want the 7900 GT or the 6800 GT?
And will I notice much of a difference vs. the 7600 GT? Is it worth doubling the price to upgrade from the 7600 GT?
The "high-end" 7900GT would be the best choice among all of the ones you stated (if you can afford it) .. & yes it should offer a nice performance increase over the mid-range 7600GT.
