View Full Version : Replacing laptop dvd drive

Well my laptops dvd drive died (unfortunately its a couple months out of warranty). I have ordered the new drive, but I have never opened a laptop up before so a little unsure of what to be doing.

The manual only shows how to get to the ram modules and doesnt explain how to get at the dvd drive, anyone out there know if it is a difficult procedure to do? The laptop is a Sony VGN-A217M

Thanks in advance

Its usually fairly simple, often there is only one screw holding in the drive, remove that, then the drive simply slides out, sometimes you have to give it a little tug :)

Ok thanks, little bit of troubleshooting required unsure what may be causing it. I had not much trouble putting the drive in, laptop booted up and saw the new drive and drivers automatically installed.

But when attempting to open the drive it just clicks a few times moves slightly but doesnt actually open

I have checked the clearance and it looks fine :/

Any ideas?

P.S have tried manual release and that is not working either.

Ok it was really simple, all that was required was to use the original faceplate.
