ur bro at Volkan’s Space has snagged all prices for the upcoming Vista Editions.

According to his information the retail packages, not the System Builder Editions, will cost:

Windows Vista Home Basic - 200€ or 255.55$ or 135.95£
Windows Vista Home Premium - 400€ or 511.10$ or 271.90£
Windows Vista Ultimate Edition - 500€ or 638.88$ or 339.87£
Windows Vista Business - 650€ or 830.54$ or 441.84£
Windows Vista Enterprise - 800€ or 1,022.20$ or 543.80£

Let’s assume these are the final prices then Windows Vista Home Premium costs twice as much as Windows XP Professional which is the corresponding equivalent to it!
But keep in mind that most users will get their (subsidized) Windows Vista copy with a new computer.

Thats a little steep I think...

Oh my god! Home Premium and Ultimate Edition are the most expensive. I noticed the UK prices are excluded VAT, I worked out to included VAT on the list below.

Windows Vista Home Basic - £159.74
Windows Vista Home Premium - £319.48
Windows Vista Ultimate Edition - £399.34
Windows Vista Business - £519.16
Windows Vista Enterprise - £638.96

I think I will get piracy copy of Ultimate Edition, if the Aero glass wont work with piracy version so I guess I will be force to fork out about £300 to get Ultimate Edition OEM. The retail price is way out of people's money pockets to reach when they are saving up to get the G80 and the PS3 with 60GB later this year, each one will cost less than Ultimate Edition retail version when it ship in January 2007.

Microsoft is out of their mind with these prices, I really dont see everybody in the UK will pay £319.48 Vista Home Premium and £399.34 Ultimate Edition to get Aero glass experience in January 2007. It is a huge shame that cheap Vista Home Basic wont get Aero glass! :(

I tracked down the source here (http://www.guenstiger.de/gt-preisvergleich/EDV_PC_Microsoft_Windows_Vista_Ultimate_Edition.ht m). Do you expect the prices of XP Home Edition and Professional to fall when it replace with Vista? It will not happen because lots of people still use it, same thing with Windows 2000 Professional. If you think Windows 2000 Professional now cost £50 because it was 6 years old OS then you are wrong. The retail version can be found anywhere for £160 (http://www.itmax.co.uk/search.php?q=MS0321) today.

sounds insane, if its true thats pretty steep..
But its just to wait and see, how much do you pay extra for XP now if you buy a computer with it included?
Looking at XP standalone now its still pretty expensive, if you break it down over the amount of years you use it, its not so bad, but its still a big sum of money to cough up at once..

$160 is my limit. They can go to hell before I pay $600+. Here's to hoping these numbers are nonsense...

That's quite a steep price for reskinned XP vaporware. Linux has a pretty steep price tag as well at a whopping $0.00 USD.

Vaporware is stuff that doesn't exist cept perhaps on paper.

Considering there is extensive beta testing and the beta 2 release is round the corner, how can you call this vaporware?

Besides, vista has some pretty cool tools and features :D

Agree, I can't wait to see the "Desktop Clean-UP Wizard: You have unused icons on the desktop" in the Aero theme, that would be awesome. (nana2)
