I really don't see it "spanking" the FX62...

if intel can keep the price of conroe under 500$ then i would call it a spanking but if they price it in the range of the fx series then its all just moot to me.

by the way, has there been any pricing of conroe released?

These are the rumored prices...

Also, I just noticed that they chose tighter timings but slower ram for the conroe...

ConRoe will certainly have the price advantage if that pricing is right.

Used Forceware 91.27 for benchies (nana2)

Uh Intel is back, finally! Conroe looks to be sucht a killer CPU. Can't wait.
Intel is faster with a $300 CPU than a $1000 AMD FX, that's huge.

Imagine a XE against the FX-62 - lol...

im sure athlonXP will find a way of trying to tell us that slower is in fact better :p

worth it for the comedy alone.

I wonder why the difference with Far Cry is so big, but in Splinter Cell and Quake its much closer. If the price for the 6600 Conroe ($316) is true, it will be my CPU of choice. AMD needs to reduce prices dramatically to stay compeditive, but game performance wise the performance gap isnīt too dramatic. We need more game benches though to really know the deal.

FarCry is far more CPU limited in the benchmark, they ran it at 1024x768 while the other two titles were on high resolution with AA/AF on.

Thanks man! Iīm blind. :p So its reasonable to assume that the Conroe would have spanked the FX62 in Quake/SCCT if they ran them at 1024 with no AA/AF as well?

If them prices are right then the Conroe E6600 looks to be the CPU to get ,and if AMD keeps prices that high and if they are slower then the Conroe then Intel should do good.,because I don't care who makes it ,if the price is right and performance is greater then I will be switching to intel .

current gen vs. next gen isnt a fair battle, amd's probobly has something up their sleve for this situation, and im gona laugh when amd releases something thatll blow all these intels away and leave you guys with crippled intel systems :p. I dont know if you guys remember, when pentium 4 came out it was the best, but that soon changed because of the amd 64 release ;).

The AMD FX62 is AMD's next chip called AM2 so it shouldn't be considered current vs next gen.

AM2 vs Conroe is more than fair, after all both are the Next Gen from each camp.

its not our fault AM2 is nothing more than 939 with DDR2 support.

K8-L is what the fanboi's are proposing as the next AMD proc.

C'est la vie when you allign yourself so tightly to one camp or the other :p

Isn't the Intel's core based on the pentium M architecture? If so, then it's a fair and square comparison! :p

Wow... if those rumored prices are right, then I'm changing sides faster than you can say "Fanboys suck balls" :D.

I was a tad skeptic at first because Intel chips tend to be much more expensive than AMD's. However, if in fact Conroe will be the better bargain, I'm there.
My financial resources are not as infinite as, say, Jakup's, so at the end of the day I'll go where I can get the best bang-for-buck.

One way or the other, P4 really sucked balls. :p

As long as benchmarks are GPU limited at 1600x1200 w/ AA and AF as they are in these numbers, I see no need to upgrade at all. For all you with your high end 939 X2's and FX's I see nothing in those benchmarks that would make me run to newegg and order all new parts.

Conroe is a whopping 3.67% faster in Q4 and .88% faster in Splinter Cell than a FX62.

I'm wondering why they equipped the FX62 system with 2 gigs of ram while conroe only 1 gig...

K8L is still 6 months away at least.

To be fair AMD still has to switch to 65nm. Rumors say the first samples at 65nm can reach easily the same speed of the fastest Pentium 4s. With built in memory controllers and a shorter, more efficient pipeline they should be a match for Conroe.

Any word on Celerons based on the new architecture? I want my next gen PC to be much quieter and cooler. I still miss my old Pentium III Tualatin on that front. It hardly reached 40deg under load and at 1.33Ghz it was more than a match for Athlons and P4 Willamettes

Who cares anyway. What matters is what is available vs. what is available (or available real soon anyway) not whether something new is coming out in six months that people feel should be included in a comparison for it to be thought of as "fair".

Isn't the ddr2 also faster on the AM2 setup? I agree with you that updating wouldn't be necessary, but for those who want the best money can buy, then conroe is the way to go! And the conroe is clocked below fx62 speeds.. ;)

AMD will not have a new revision until '07 when they move to 65nm. AMD got caught with their pants down.

I think I can afford to hold out till the k8-l debuts and see whats what.

Conroe is definitely snappy in the new xps d'top :smoking:

I bet jakup wants one :D
