View Full Version : Office 2007 beta is out
Props to Microsoft for making something good even better and easier to use. The new layout is top notch and I really like all of the new features especially in word and powerpoint(those programs I use for schoolwork the most)! Never knew word had a translator built-in? That's really cool! Too bad it isn't gramatically correct, guess I have to learn the languages after all... ;)

Hey is anyone having a problem viewing the body of an email with Outlook 2007? All I see on emails I have recieved after the upgrade is the subject line of the email. Is there some new option I am missing that is preventing me from seeing the entire email message?
I had this problem last night. No matter what I tried I couldn't get it to display. I only affected one email, there were no click here to displays. I guess this is just the type of issue MS are wanting to heard about.
The better we beta test, the better the final will be. So if Office 2007 and Vista suck we have only ourselves to blame :p

Because openoffice is a bloated program? And isn't 100% compatible with the industry standard (whether you like it or not)?

Well, when they make them public betas, there's no "well the few beta testers weren't running my system config" one could fall back on.
And yes, you might want to make a bug report on that one ;)

And feature differences aren't a poo, poo thing when one's looking at a beta to some upcomming piece of software, and comparing it to something that was out there.
Actually, why it should matter is beyond me. Then again, I subscribe to more of a "live and let live" policy when it comes to people deciding what software to run on their own personal computers :D

it's bloated and slow. That's why I'm willing to pay $300 for MS Office - fast and efficient.

I have been told disabling your emails virus scanner plugin can fix this. Especially if its AVG.

You were right. It was my virus software. I still let the virus scanner scan emails but I don't let it certify the mail. Outlook is working great now. Thanks for the help.

The first couple of minutes after working with Office 2007 I were like 'what the hell did they do'. Now I'm quite glad they changed it. All the relevant functions are now nicely compartmentalized and the tabs ... Tabs FTW!!!!
I am convinced that this setup will make this program much easier for beginners to learn.
My only question is why have Microsoft not done this earlier?
Actually MS calls them Ribbons, I am on Beta 2 and I love it :)

What's called ribbons? The 'tabs'?

I'd just like to chime in on this several months after the fact.
Openoffice 1 was UNBEARABLE regardless of the platform it was run on. It had that "I'm built on a Java template program" written all over it. Personally, I blame it on Java because of my hate for it...but it was just a very slow program.
OpenOffice 2 is a lot better and is a decent alternative if you can't pony up for Office. It's still significantly slower than Office, especially on a slower system. You can also install OpenOffice 2 on a thumb drive, which is pretty nice, but then its so slow that you may as well install MS Office on the machine. ;)
