im going to wait to see how far the cheapest one overclocks, and probably get the 2.4 anyways.

E6700 for me (nana2)

Same here :D

The E6600 looks like the best bang for the buck however, 4MB's of L2, and I'm certain you can hit close to 3GHz on that thing :)

I'm gonna shoot for 3.2-3.4GHz on my E6700 :)

I'm gonna wait until they come out to see if the extra cache sizes affect gaming as much. A big comparison of ALL the new chips when they come out would be cool to see what the performance differences will be in real world applications.

E6600 here. I wonder how much they will actually cost in retail. Will Intel release enough units or limit it somewhat to keep the prices higher? I hope not, but I have a feeling that I will have to pay more than $316 for the E6600. :( I hate it when Im negative.

Are these supposed to overclock well ?

I hope the dual core Socket 939 cpus go down a LOT in price because of this. I want a dual core, but if these are going to be so much cheaper than AMD's dual cores (look at the 6300 and 6400...) Id be better off just buying ANOTHER new motherboard. But that would screw up my current plan for having 2 systems with no wasted parts :p

The E6600 is looking mughty fine in price. Intel are well and truly back if those benchmarks are anything to go by. I may even be tempted when it is time to upgrade soon.

Yeah it sucks, I really dont think Im going with an AMD X2. Everything on my system runs flawless except for Oblivion. And just getting a GX2 wouldnt fix it. Id need significantly more CPU power, and according to the benches at Firingsquad (in the AM2 review) nothing AMD offers is worth it at all. I figured where mine would get roughly 42fps in their tests, an FX-62 gets 50. Thatd be pointless even if it were possible. Anything less wouldnt even be noticeable.

If Im going to be doing anything with my CPU, its damn well going to make Oblivion run better. I dont do enough multitasking to blow $300 solely for that :p

On top of that, the dual core hell my brother has to go through with some of his games is completely unnacceptable. Im VERY surprised that there isnt some sort of option built into windows XP for setting affinity via a shortcut. If there is, I havent found it.

Aiming for the E6700 myself, what would be the best mobo and memory for this beast as we have to move to DDR2?

Are you getting a Dell 3007 as well? The E3 must have teased you seriously. :D Best of luck man!

Just a note.:)

A CHAP named Coolaler just posted the first benchmarks from a Conroe E6700 CPU overclocked from its default 2.66GHz to a mind-boggling 4601MHz.

Well, we all know that if it entails new hardware, you'll buy :D Speaking of which, (well half joking) I wonder if any of the local computer stores started giving you a "frequent shopper discount" for all the business you bring their way?
