check out this news from the inq,and truth in that?.
i dont think 1000mhz core it seens to mutch, mayby 900mhz.i think the r600 will be clocked at 900/2200mhz.

for the past 3 years, the inquirer has stated that EVERY card released will be "32pipelines and be clocked at 1000mhz". Litterally every freaking card "supposively" has those stats.

I like the inquirer for all news EXCEPT for video card news. Everything else they are pretty close on.

Even if it's correct then what? Will the card come with a vantec tornado on there? Yikes.

The first card that will use stock water cooling! You heard it from me first! Fuad, I know you are reading this, so give me ****ing credit! :D

That is insane, I can't imagine they will get good yields on a part like that... but incredible none the less.

Well, with the vmod people got their 7900GTS to run at 800/2Ghz. If ATI is using 65nm then I see no reason why they couldn't hit 1GHz on the core, and probably 2.2 or 2.4 on the memory. It should be possible. Heck, I'd even imagine that 1GHz on 90nm MIGHT work also- though there probably wouldn't be much more ATI could squeeze out of it. If it is on 90nm I'd bet that the differing versions for the high end would all have a 1GHz core speed but varying memory speeds.

So, if the x1900 is 48 pipes essentially, what will the R600 be? 64 pipes maybe? And at a Ghz with probably 2GHz or faster memory. That will be a sweet part. Even if ATI only kept it at 48 pipes but just improved their efficiency- at those speeds that is still gonna' be a sweet card.

You know, if it weren't for their whacky drivers I'd have no problem purchasing an X1900XTX. I've just heard too many complaints about Catalyst. I'm sticking with Forceware and the GREEN!!!! :D :D

Funny how when Intel started the GHz race everyone pointed out "ah, it's not the GHz that matter, it's the real performance", and now everyone is praising ATI for (supposedly) clocking their chips higher and higher.

Or, if you prefer, we could all remember of the 5800....

That said, it's the Inq and that moronic I-can-t-even-write-in-a-somewhat-correct-english ATI-pr-machine-at-work Fuad Abazovic ... Should I say anything more ?

i bet everyone acted the same way the first 1GHz CPU came out, lol

"bahh, thats wrong"
"oh you cant believe that"
"does it come with its own PSU?"

Only 2.2ghz for the memory ? :(

I won't upgrade till 100GB/s cards.

I hate the Inquirer so much.

The Inquirer will say many different things before R600 actually comes out, but I can't see why this piece of "news" can be surprising. 1Ghz or more on 65nm doesn't seem that hard to achieve, despite the added complexity of the chip (higher transistor count). BTW is TSMC's 65nm process low-k or not?
Then what really matters is the actual performance of the chip, not it's clock, so this news is rather insignificant.

I'm pretty sure it will be a low-k part.

FYI INQ, YOU CANT OVERCLOCK A CARD AND SAY IT IS FASTER THAN A NON-OVERCLOCKED CARD

Lol i love theinquirer

Clocks mean little.I'm more interested in the architectures that will deside the battle between G80 and R600.(nana2)

I agree entirely. Clock speed isn't everything- AMD has helped prove that. :D :D

I do hope that R600 gives ATi less headaches than the past two architectures have.
