I've found that if I read /. regularly and meta-moderate every other day I've been given mod points there about twice a week.

I haven't been keeping up with it as well as I should, and I definately ain't moderated there in a while. Too much of a pain-in-the-butt, it's hard to keep up with /.!

(Believe it or not, /. was the first place I used "digitalwanderer" as a username and it's just sort of stuck. :) )

Sorry. If you meta-moderate over at Slashdot, (where you go and rate how the other moderators rated), you generally get chosen to moderate a lot more. When you're chosen as a moderator at slashdot, you get 5 "moderator points" which can be used to add or subtract from any story that you are not posting in.

You have like 3 days to use up your points, then they're worthless. (To prevent people from hording them & such)

No biggy, but it freaked me out the first time it happened to me. It became a regular thing for me once slashdot grew up even more, but I don't meta-moderate as much as I should.

Slashdot has got a fascinating system of posting, it's a trip just in and of itself. :)
