View Full Version : Will AMD buy ATI?? Check this out......
It doesn't matter who/if buys ATI. NVIDIA has positioned herself in this industry and will continue to lead. :D Somebody should read the financial stuff I post on the front page. :p
Reuters talks with Rob Csongor V.P. of Corporate Marketing at NVIDIA. NVIDIA currently holds 52 percent market share in the global graphics card industry competing with ATI's 48 percent. NVIDIA posted record revenue of $2.38 Billion for its latest fiscal year. Csonger explains that.
"Our revenues are ramping up sharply," he said in Taipei at Computex, the world's second-largest computer show.
Also adding:
"We're looking at good, healthy growth for the year -- both for our main as well as our new businesses."
He also stated that some of the best growth was coming from mobile products along with new computers being outfitted for 3D graphics for use with Microsoft's new Vista operating system..

Oh I agree, performance/price wise and financially, NVidia is dominating. And I will certainly look at that interview Mike, thanks gor the heads up.
But Ati's 48% is nothing to sneer at. And AMDs cpus are still leading the pack, until Conroe officially shows up.
Ati has been having southbridge shortages, I suspect AMD will either be able to fix that themselves, of have someone do those southbridges for Ati. With their heads together, they will certainly give Intel and NVidia some good competition.
Neither AMD nor Ati is currently in a bad position, but both, separately were heading in a direction in a near future of being less competitive, together I expect they will be stronger and put up a better fight.
They're not stupid, they're not just waiting for their opponents to make the next move unchallenged.
Something I've learned is don't count anyone out! I thought AMD would hold the CPU crown for at least another 5+ years but look at what Intel's been doing. Intel grossly underestimated AMD and I doubt they will do so again. I'm not loyal to any company, be it AMD, Intel, ATi or nVidia, but I choose the fastest part that is out at the time I'm buying. That said I did prefer the way AMD did business over the way Intel and their strongarm tactics.
Now it looks like Intel has done a complete 180 with not just their ethics but with their procs as well. The tables are reversed now. AMD had Intel playing catchup for a few years and now with Conroe, it looks like AMD will be the one playing catchup for a few years. Had AMD been able to released the K10 (was that the next chip in line?....I know the K8L is the next one now) then I think AMD might have retained their crown, if only by a hair.
My next upgrade is due around tax time of 2007 and I can't wait! I don't know which vid card I'll buy but I'm almost 100% certain that I'll be buying the new Conroe! I was going to buy the R520 last year until ATi screwed around so long and then lied about it until I just bought a G70. Fortunately for me I bought an EVGA card and was able to "Step Up" to a 7800 GTX512, which I'm VERY happy with now. We all know though that even this card will be noticeably outrun by whatever ATi has even if it's slower than what nVidia has.
I'll say this though, if ATi pulls the same crap they pulled last year, I won't hesitate to buy whatever the fastest card nVidia has at the time. I'm also not going to wait for any hardware from any company longer than a month. Last year, I waited for the R520 for 3 months and for what! I just hope nVidia doesn't EVER pull what ATi did! nVidia's made it's own share of mistakes (low availability anyone) but I hope both companies have learned from their mistakes. Hey, at least no one's duplicated what 3DR has done for DNF! LOL. :nutkick:
