I'm trying to sort out a way to index some files on our server so they can be quickly searched by on client machines.
Theres about 130 000 files, consisting of Word Documents and zip files (containing archived word documents) total size is around 15Gb.
Basically users will need to be able to search inside word documents and inside zip files.
We were using ISYS Desktop search 6. Which never worked properly and upgrading to version 7 is unbelievely expensive ($1000AUD just for 2 users). I'm trying Wilbur as I type, but I doubt its able to cope with the amount of data. (already thrown an error at me).
Looking at the Enterpirse version of MSN desktop search, with plugins for zip files and pdf documents.
Any ideas to save me some time?
Thanks in Advance
dont know about inside zip files but have you tried directconnect?

i hope you have a big fat pipe feeding that network?..well the easy answer is there is no cheap way of doing this that i have seen.. i know ms and google offer services, you might want to check them out but understand that from what i can tell most enterprise level search services seem to weaken security in one form or another.

What a coincidence...I've been researching this as well lately and (other than using a Google or Google Mini appliance which I've used and do like other than some proprietary cons...you can customize somewhat via XSLT though) I think Lucene is the best way to go. I'm a .NET developer so here are some links in that vein but Lucene is an open source project.

And here's some info on Seekafile Server:

Apache Lucene site:

A number of sites use Lucene...Krugle (http://corp.krugle.com/) is one of them that I know of using it (I'm in their beta program).

Tell me about it. Being a Commerical Law Firm security is paramount.
I might as well have a steering wheel attached to my fly, as this is driving me nuts. (pirate)
