Its pretty official so do or die, 6-6-06 this beast will be released.

It seems to be coming in the AM of tomorrow so it should be up by time we all wake up.

Sahweet!!! Can't wait to wake up and download the update. I'd like to see the "improved visual quality" mentioned . . and also about DVD playback with a VGA cable.

Finally I can boot to dash! Seriously, that's the only thing I wanted. (nana2)

The background downloading addition is very nice as well. I also like how you can now apply themes from the system section of the dashboard. Well done, Microsoft. :)

DVD player outputs at native resolution over VGA connection
Can someone elaborate on this ?

Does it means that, while playing DVDs, the console will set the resolution to 720x480 (NTSC) or 720x576 (PAL) ?

Based on what the update said, I got the impression that whatever your VGA setting is, because it resized to 640x480 before; so maybe now it will stay at 1280x1024(or whatever your setting is) and just resize the picture.

Yes DVD's are now upconverted to whatever VGA resolution is chosen.

The DVD VGA fix and so on are awesome being that I now use my 360 as my primary DVD player. Also with the VGA some are saying colors are no longer washed when gaming but I am not sure I notice it yet. Will play with it some more later but so for very nice and neat new features.

User-selected music continues play when switching from Dashboard to game or game to Dashboard.

:)

Oblivion is now noticeably darker with a more distinct colour spectrum.

I think the colors thing had to do with the TV's vga inputs and not the actual 360.

I tested my 360 with the VGA cable and indeed DVD video is much better but unfortunately the washed out imagine remains. The component cable gives me the best picture quality on my 40" LCD.

Any chance that this update also upsamples DVD playback over standard component cables? I didn't see that specifically on the list, but it can't hurt to ask since it seems they did that over a VGA connection at least.

No DVD upscaling on component as confirmed by members of the AVS forum.

It's technically illegal too. Then again, it was suppose to be that way with VGA.

Tried a DVD today and now it looks much better on my LCD.

Some people report also crisper images over VGA. I think they just tweaked the color saturation. This is clearly visible in the dashboard

Yeah, I think it does look better in the dashboard at least. Haven't tried a game yet, but will do so later.

Hmm, how do you access the download manager?

Games definitely look better using VGA to me now - looks like they corrected the gamma to fix the washed out colors issue. It's nice to be able to toss the component adaptor in the drawer and be able to run at my LCD's native resolution of 1366x768.

I noticed that one of the items updated was full USB keyboard support. USB mouse support shouldn't be to far behind. Once this happens I'll be in FPS heaven!! :wonder:

Go to Xbox Live Marketplace and then the second from the bottom (I think) should say something about Active Downloads... something like that anyway.

Component looked like crap for me. I definitely regretted buying my LCD after the way it looked. Too dark and definitely not impressive. Halo 2 looked worse than my old CRT TV. Using the VGA cable for the first time: WOW! :)

IQ over VGA is definitely improved. I could tell the difference right away over my 2005FPW. All games look quite a bit sharper, except Forza, which probably will look like *** no matter what MS does to update the 360.
