Hi there
Tossing around the idea of trading in my 7800GTX for a 7900GTX.
My 7800GTX runs on a AMD 64 4000+. If I went with the 7900GTX do you think it's performnce would be CPU limited with my current processor ??

cheers

Nope. You could easily overclock your CPU 400mhz to take full advantage of it, however. I have a friend w/ a 1900XT who saw some good gains by taking his to 2800mhz.

The sweet spot on the CPU for these cards is 2.6-2.8, and the 4000+ will do that easily.

Do you have an eVGA card? If so, you doin' the StepUp Program? Why not just go with the 7950GX2?

what is the sweet spot on the cpu for a 7900GT videocard?

Not positive on that one, but I'd say that your overall system could benefit from an OC on your CPU. I've seen those Venice's OC'd easy to 2.4-2.6gHz.

Just be careful if you decide to do it and look to some of the knowledgeable people on the boards here for advice/instructions if you've never attempted it before.

Any Athlon 64 2.0GHz or up is good enough for a 7900GTX or 7900GT. I;m running a lowly 7800GT on an Athlon 64 X2 4200+ and it runs great!

I'd say for potent single cards a min overclock|speed of 2.2 GHz on an AMD 64 dual or single core. For dual card configs I say 2.4GHz as a min. Ideally I'd want 2.6-2.8 GHz. Naturally if you can get more with stability, take it.

If you want a good price vs performance dual core try a X2 3800+ from a place that will check them for you and request Lbdhe 0601 Tpmw. I have seen many of those go up to 3.0 Ghz on air and not require a lot of volts to do it either.

what advice do you need? its HTTxMultiplyer, i think the 4000+ is 2.4ghz, the multiplyer is 13 if im correct, so 205x13=2665...

The multipler on the Xp64 4000+ is 12 and it runs at 2.4gig ,but the newer ones with the 90mm chip should overclock close to 2.8gig.IMO the sweet spot would be ever how high you can get your CPU to overclock.
