4096x4096 Landscape LOD Texture Pack Version 2
This mod simply replaces the original 1024x1024 "Level of detail" terrain textures with 4096x4096 textures that I enhanced with photoshop filters. This almost totaly eliminates the blurry textures you see from a distance.

** Version 2 of this pack GREATLY improves the load times and GREATLY decreases stuttering from the last version. A HUGE thanks goes out to jikad on nVnews.net for explaining how to fix this!**

I also used different filters so that the new LOD textures match the original colors better than the ones in my previous pack.

DOWNLOAD HERE (http://nekrosoft.net/CaptNKILL/ck_4096lodtex_v2.zip)
or
HERE (http://www.gothiccircle.net/?p=77)

This .zip file is roughly 110Mb. It contains all the instructions you should need to get it set up.

**Important note**

Most older video cards do not support textures over 2048x2048 so this pack will not work on those cards.

Known working video card chipsets:

*Nvidia Geforce 6 series and 7 series
*ATI Radeon x1x00 series (x1600, x1700, x1800, x1900 etc.)

Known NOT working video card chipsets:

*Radeon X600, X700 and X800 series

4096x4096 Landscape Border Regions LOD Texture Pack

This mod simply replaces the original 1024x1024 "Level of detail" terrain textures with 4096x4096 textures for areas outside the normal game area ONLY. This almost totaly eliminates the blurry textures you see from a distance in these areas. This mod is only necessary if you are running mods that give you places to go outside the normal game area.To replace textures inside the normal game area, get my other 4096 LOD Texture Pack.

If you dont need to go to these places (most of you wont) then I advise against installing this since it will probably just use more video memory with no visual difference. I mainly just created this for the people who really have a need for it.

DOWNLOAD HERE (http://nekrosoft.net/CaptNKILL/ck_4096bordertexnew.zip)

This .zip file is roughly 215Mb. It contains all the instructions you should need to get it set up.

*Nvidia Geforce 6 series and 7 series
*ATI Radeon x1x00 series (x1600, x1700, x1800, x1900 etc.)

Complete Non-Tiling\Patterning Landscape Texture Pack

By default, the majority of the landscape textures in Oblivion look great up close but tend to have excessive patterning (repeating lines and patterns) that can be very ugly and very distracting. This mod replaces most of the landscape textures in Oblivion with textures that show far less tiling. I used photoshop and manually fixed over 140 textures to get rid of these nasty patterns.

Keep in mind that this pack may not be for everyone. I tried to keep everything looking relatively the same, but some textures just tiled so horribly that they had to be changed quite a bit. This could make some areas look a little bland, but for the most part, the scenery will look more natural, more realistic and less distracting.

Standard and OMOD Versions of all mods available here:

(Thanks Pseudopath!)

Rather than go on and on, I'll let the before and after shots speak for themselves.

All of the shots are taken with some ini tweaks so it may not look identical on your system. These pics are for comparing against eachother only. The after shots are using all 3 of my mods, but also include the LOD normal map fix (http://www.tessource.net/files/cache/2446.html) textures that smooth out the blocky LOD normal maps. I highly recommend that you use this pack whether you use mine or not.

Wow....that looks a hell of a lot better then that blurry mess and even an improvement over your original.

Good work man!

For some reason the upload died last night :(

I'll upload the smaller one right now, and then I'll do the big ones when I get to work (much faster upload speed there).

Sorry for the delay guys. The computer gods just dont want me to get this done, I swear :p

Here you go guys!
This is the non-tiling texture pack:
http://nekrosoft.net/CaptNKILL/ck_notilingtex.zip

Its roughly 22Mb. It contains all the instructions you should need to get it set up.

The LOD texture packs will be up a little bit later.

let me know what speeds you get, its the first time i'm testing this server

maybe its just me, but it looks less detailed for the first 50 - 100 yards.... the only improvement I see is far away, but up close I don't like it at all. Not cutting you down CaptN, but I just don't like the way it looks up close. Loses a ton of detail.

Edit: I'm just judging this by the screenshots. I have not installed this pack so I do not know.

Well, your textures succesfully de-lurked me (after a month or so hiding in shadows around these boards). They rock! :D

Have you included some of the Qarl's or Jarrod's textures inside the no-tiling pack? I'm using hybrid mod, with textures mixed in from both of them, and I'd like to know will this overwrite them - which is fine by me, your no tiling textures look so much better from a distance...

I'm getting 53-55 kB/s DL, which is about max. for my link (512 kbps ADSL).

Nope, I didnt use any other textures in this pack. They were all made from the originals that came with the game.

And Tyger, thats ok. I expected that itd be a preference kind of thing. There isnt really any way to remedy this situation because of the limits of "standard" texturing. You either get more varied textures that look horrible far away, or you get "flatter" textures that look better far away. I tried to get an even ground, but its nearly impossible. Once you add a detail, theres a big huge line (or dozens of them) going on for 800 yards.

Im hoping that more games will start using something like QW:ET's Megatexture system to prevent this kind of thing from happening in the future.

EDIT: Second file up!
http://nekrosoft.net/CaptNKILL/ck_4096lodtex_v2.zip
This is the LOD texture pack v2. This should cover everything you'll ever see in the game, but if you want the "complete" set, I have the border regions uploading now.

Don't know about the textures since those are available yet but the tiling fix is far better then the previous one made available. The world already looks alot better.

yes, i completely understand WHY you can't add much details. I use to make maps for games all the time. I know EXACTLY what you are running into. I was just making a comment thats all.

If you want me to help host your packs I will still be more than happy to do it.

No problem man :)

And yeah, if you want to host some, you can put them up on your server. Itd probably be much much faster for you to download them from that server rather than have me send them to you. At work here our upload is better than at my house, but its still only 768k. I guess I should stop hogging all the bandwidth too

ok yea, you probably want to send me the files. I've tried for the 5th time to download the files from Nek's server and it crashes on me. Put them on yousendit.com and email to Tygerwoody@gmail.com. I'll get them on my web server.

I start to download it and after like 10% it just stops the download process.... it doesn't really do anything.

Ok, email sent. It has the link for the non-tiling pack.

If anyone else is having problems getting that pack, you can try the yousendit link:

Itl only be up for 7 days and I dont know how much bandwidth they allow, but its there.
