View Full Version : Vista beta drivers thread
I thought an ongoing thread with any beta vista drivers may be helpful to some. It would be easier than digging around the multiple threads and websites out there if folks contributed when a new driver is found.
I also thought some links about working with Vista beta would be helpful for those, like me, who aren't pro's at this puter stuff:p

Hope it comes in handy in the coming weeks/months.

Has anybody had luck installing Vista x64 Beta2 booting from the DVD on a system with nVidia Sata Raid? I followed the instructions I found here http://download.nvidia.com/Windows/vista/beta2/vista64_install_instructions.pdf but, it doesn't work.

I've got the 32 bit myself, but haven't seen many folks having any luck with it.

I found the nForce drivers, and posted to the other thread (well didn't notice it here) as several people indicated nForce driver problems over in it.
What I'm not sure about (though I did grab it), is the support on the thing doesn't begin before the nForce 4, as an officially supported chipset. I've got an nForce 3, and well there are no nForce 3 drivers for it. So, should I try to install it (well obviously the mobo is AGP and not PCI-E), are the drivers for nForce 3 now bundled in the OS, hopefully with full functionality, or at least not so basic as to leave most of the features unusable. Course the nForce sound could be a real issue. And no, I'm not daring enough to grab some year old (almost) beta 1 drivers, if I can avoid it...
Other then that, I did grab the ATI drivers for Vista 64 (the version I'm nabbing), and well some of my other hardware such as my SCSI card the drivers, should I at least suspect be bundled in. They are on XP, and though I have Adaptec supplied drivers, haven't always installed them...
At least I'm not finding Logitech drivers thus far, so I s'pose the mouse will have to be used without some of the extra mouse buttons being functional or something...
I read on 1 of the vista help threads, should have bookmarked it, that several nforce beta drivers are rolled into this build of vista. My mobo was detected properly during install and trying to force any driver install results in a bsod, so I don't have any way to gage performance differences with the drivers off nvidia's page.
I'll post any results with my g5 after I get back in vista later.

Thanks for the links. I've got Vista beta downloaded but haven't had a chance to install it yet. This thread should save me some time. :)
I was able to install both the 32 and 64 bit versions of Vista on my nForce RAID 0 setup with no problems.
I used the nForce drivers from nzone, and copied them to a USB flash drive. When Vista asks you for the install partition, select the "load drivers" option, and pick the serial ATA controller. Then pick "load drivers" again, and select the RAID controller option. It took my machine about 30 seconds to come back after selecting the RAID option, and I could see it hitting all my drives in the process.
Once both of those drivers are loaded, pick the partition you want, and the install should work.
Yeah the X64 worked pefectly fine with me games did not however. Trying the X86 out now. Use the 64bit drivers at www.nzone.com they where the ones that worked for me.

Anybody got Creative X-Fi working on the latest beta of Vista x64? Apparently the beta drivers they have on their site won't work with the public beta (been trying for the last hour).
My Intergrated Audigy LE worked fine in both X86 and X64. Havn't tried my Xfi as i am selling that off.

hello. im trying to get vista x64 installed. Ive tried downloading the vista beta drivers from this site but they dont seem to help. when i get to the screen where you choose your partition i get "unable to find system volume which meets installation criteria" or somesuch. I have an Epox 9NPA+Ultra (so a N4 Ultra). Im trying to install it onto a sata partition. I view the drivers from a list but only if i uncheck the box that says "filter out drivers which arent compatible with your system". what am i doing wrong and how did you guys get it to install?

maybe a different issue, but the 32bit wouldn't install for me til I formatted the drive I was putting it on. Also how large a partition do you have set aside. This bloated beta needs something like 15 gig for an install.

Gave up on Vista. It was impossible to install it on my AMD NF4 Ultra system with 2 Maxtor 300GB SATA 16mb cache drives in RAID 0.
Then I tried to install XP Pro x64 to then upgrade it to Vista but I got a blue screen when XP x64 installation is done and boots up for the first time (unmountable_boot_volume). Tried every driver I found for XP x64 with no luck.
Finally, I attemped to install Vista on a 40GB IDE drive that I salvaged from my dead Dish Network DVR unit but, neither Vista nor XP x64 wanted to use it, even though I disconnected the 2 Sata maxtor drives. Looks like this harddrive is locked or something.

I've heard problems with the raid setup. I have same chipset to yours and it works in non-raid mode and installs all drivers.

As for X-Fi, like someone said, you get the XP 64bit Pro drivers from Creative Labs. Install em, might give you error or something, but just continue, reboot and re-install the same drivers. Vista beta drivers don't work.
You might have to use winrar to extract the XP 64bit drivers from the exe. I am like you with X-fi, but I didn't try this solution. Going to re-install this weekend. Hope it helps.

nVidia driver 88.61 works on Beta 2, albeit it has almost no options in the control panel, and what little options it does have most cannot be changed, this includes AA (error) and AF (only to 2x). I read somewhere that it works properly with build 5381.1 with all options. Can anyone confirm this? I am asking because this is the only thing stopping me running Vista, I won't use it without a control panel that I can at least change colour settings in
Or, does anyone know how to get recent XP drivers working with it? All they do is cause a BSOD whenever launching a DirectX app, probably due to incompatibility between DX10 and the XP driver.

For those pondering a re-install of Vista with the solution, just letting you know, I don't know who it worked for but I was pretty ticked to see it didn't work at all for me. Always same thing, corrupt or missing driver, there was a problem installing the device yada yada.. I spent a few hours and even tried decompressing both the Vista beta driver and Win XP 64bit driver and mix matching between the two just to get it installed. Nothing worked! I tried all 5 bookmarked possible solutions!! Same errors!!!
I've decided to put Vista install on hold until Creative gets off their fat butts and releases some new beta drivers. Sickens me that Creative, being an almost virtual monopoly in sound goes to prove the world just how easy they have it and how they can hold communities and interested parties at a standstill while everyone waits to see if they will release a driver. Meanwhile the rest of the PC industry who is on the ball have released their beta drivers for Vista. Creative Labs just keeps proving how much they don't belong in the PC World.

Please Creative Labs, sell off all your EAX stuff for cheap to someone who is willing to come to the table with 'users' in mind. Go make your MP3 players and iPod clones, it's obvious it's all you are capable of supporting! /end rant

Yup, I've decided to wait as well. I'll wait for the RC1 to come out. Hopefully by then Creative will have gotton their act together and released some drivers for it...
I've gone back to XP Pro with the Vista Transformation Pack and couldn't be happier. Especially since my Dell 2407 showed up yesterday :) It's so beautiful.
I'm running 64bit beta2, but cannot seem to get sound for the life of me using the integrated sound card on my ASUS A8N-SLI board. I believe it is called RealTek AC'97 audio... I even downloaded the vista beta driver from their website, but still no go. Anyone else having this problem?
will nvidia support "old" hardware like my geforce3 ti 200 in vista ? When I try the actual driver it says my card isn't recognized...

Is SLI working in Vista yet? It looks like Creative screwed me again with no Vista drivers, but I have a daughter card for this mobo... It is an "AudioMax 7.1 HD" card, and I could use that for now if I can get SLI to work.
Also, is there a list of routers that work with Vista? I know that many current routers have a conflict with Vista and not all of them allow you to disable a setting to allow it to work.

Ah, I ran into this initially, but found a work around. Though my board is a MSI Neo Platnum 2, though it uses the nForce 3 chipset.
Basically, how I got sound was to grab the nVidia beta drivers for Vista. Now, the chipset itself isn't recognized for most stuff (which has the drivers built in). However, the sound I installed from that package, on nZone? I think it was. Sound has mostly been working since, though one game the sound option is grayed out. Otherwise, I have thus far been getting it.
Edit: These drivers from the front page
http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_downloads_rel70betadriver.html
Other then the sound however, you'll still need to use the built in drivers, unless a newer version has changed that since I installed ;)
