Anyone else buy one? Mine came in yesterday. Overall I like it and its super bright and brings out alot of crisp vibrant colors which the old DS did not pick up on IMO. Even though its sleeker and looks alot better I think some might prefer the size of the old style and I sort of do because it has been cramping my hands so for but I guess it might just need some more breaking in. Its a better buy over the old model but for those with big hands and or long fingers you might prefer the size of the old model.

Super bright. No need for a flash light with this thing.

Ya, because brighter is better, that's what I always say. Screw resolution, screw details and smuggyness, and to hell size! Heck, sometimes I stare into the sun and think "man that is the best screen I have ever seen!"

Seriously, why do you say things like that. USE LOGICALLY REASONING. The angle alone would make the DS Light screens look brighter than the PSP. You could have just said "wow looks great!" but you HAD to get your Sony digg in there somehow...

I'll be picking mine up at launch at EBGames, since I decided to trade in my GameCube and Nintendo DS Brick for a total of $127 (GCN: $30+20; DS: $50+20 + 10% for putting it on a preorder).

I have my first ever Invisible Shield (http://www.shieldzone.com/category/gaming_system/) ready-to-go. I had Hori-brand screen protectors on my DS Brick (and on my PSP for that matter), but it was unimpressive since it would get scratched. The good thing with the IS is that it'll cover the scratch-prone top/bottom of the DS Lite (http://www.liquidsun.org/robby/dslite_invisibleshield.jpg) [when closed].

EDIT:
Wow, way to flamebait...
The DS Lite's screens are, at least, equally as bright as the PSP: source. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eC-3HoPOD9I)
Note: it was the DS Lite's brightest versus the PSP's brightest whilst running off batteries.

I got mine!

Picked up 3 games: Advance Wars: Dual Strike, New Super Mario Bros., Mario Kart DS.

Those should keep me busy for a while.

Soon to get: Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time.

I've also wanted an GBA SP, but wanted to just get the DS - but there weren't any games at launch. Now it's redesigned and much better looking and sooo much brighter.

Go Nintendo go!

I like the brighter screens, but I doubt I'd be able to get used to the extremely tiny grip. I thought the original DS was a decent size and design minus the somewhat heavy top screen (it hurt the balance of it when you're holding it), but the Lite looks like another barely-usable GBA SP to me. The triggers were already hard enough to hit as it is...

Oh it should also be stated that the PSP screen isn't showing that bright because its taken laying down while the DS's Screen is facing the camera, notice how the lower screen is just as bright as the PSPs...

Picking mine up today!! First console/handheld I have owned since the 2600 and Tiger Baseball!!

I think I'm gonna pick up the original Super Mario Bros (NES) and Legend of Zelda (NES) since I've never played them. :D

Also, maybe Mario Cart since I've heard such great things about it.

Because I love to see Sony fans squabble after their system got owned lol.

how does that Invisible Shield work? Is it just a thin layer of plastic you put over the screens? I hear that the DSLite has a thin layer of clear plastic over the white case to prevent scratches.

Your definition of "owned" must be a bit different than most...

Handheld sales over the week of February 27 to March 5th in Japan

DS: 117,556
PSP: 43,110

no.... not really.

Actually I'm a Microsoft fanboy, I dislike Sony immensly

But what annoys the HELL out of me is when people like you continually say things like that. Every single thread I read in the console section always has you saying stuff like that, and it's making my enjoyment of the forums shoot downward

Lets enter Zelda logic for a moment:
BRIGHTER = AUTOMATICALLY BETTER
MORE SALES = AUTOMATICALLY BETTER
BEING NINTENDO PRODUCT = AUTOMATICALLY BETTER

You were touting the DS normal as better than the PSP, so it's no surprise a brighter screen with no other added functionality suddenly makes the DS Lite just as superior

I dunno... I could use the same argument on video cards. Surely people buy more GeforceFX 5200's, but that doesn't mean they are better than a 7800GT.

Keep in mind I have never used the DS Lite... nor the original DS for that matter.... :)

no, my logic goes more along the lines of BETTER GAMES = AUTOMATICALLY BETTER

but when the DS first came out, a lot of people on this forum criticized it becasue the screen wasn't as good as the PSP. Now it is.

You can't really compare video cards to consoles. Video cards are designed to accelerate 3D games. So by definition, the faster the better. Consoles on the other hand, are designed to play games, so by definition the better the games the better the console.

Consoles aren't just designed to play games. Consoles are also designed (now more than the past) to have functionality. Play movies, act as MP3 players, pictures, slide shows, internet connections. So don't forget that either

But I guess I forgot. Every function that your precious Nintendo doesn't have, automatically isn't important or doesn't matter in the least. Just like you were probably rambling on how the screen brightness didn't matter when the PSP was brighter, now that the DS Lite has a brighter screen, doesn't matter all that much

Got my DS Lite a few hours ago. Bought Tetris DS, Resident Evil DS, New Super Mario Bros., and Age of Empires DS.

Meh, if you want video/MP3s/Internet, you can buy it extra. It'll still probably be cheaper than the PSP (I'm guessing $130 + $50 M3/SC/EZ4 + any old SD cards laying around). I'm not even going to say that video on the DS is any good, though, but it's not as if it's simply not available. Opera is coming out for the DS Lite supposedly "sometime this month" in Japan.

Since when has Nintendo ever been about functionality? Obviously, they've had many redesigns over the years that are irrelevant to their profits. That is: with the exception of an all-out recall (i.e.: Famicom), there have been very few necessary updates to any of their framework to add functionality (mostly cosmetics).

Jack of all trades, master of none?

---

Otherwise... I picked up my DS Lite today, and I had no dead/stuck pixels! I applied the Invisible Shield, so I guess I'll see how it turns out. One thing's for sure, it doesn't get scratched with anything less than an x-acto knife (figuratively speaking; I haven't tested one yet :D).

The screen is definately brighter than the PSP. There are videos comparing the two at various angles.
