Just picked up an MSI KM266 board (model number AFTER coffee, maybe...:)) a couple days ago, and threw it in my old case... using it with an XP1600+ AGOIA, Radeon 8500D AIW DV, sb Audigy, 256mb PC2100, and a IBM 7.2k ATA-66 HD... Set up quickly, started up quickly, all BIOS options were detailed and nicely set up, windows went on it flawlessly, Catalyst (newest) drivers were only minimally difficult though I lost my 8500AIW DV disc (so I get asked by windows EVERY time it starts up to inst. new HW... rrr... must.. find.. disc...)... I used radeonator 2.0 (it felt like complete sacrelige, i tell ya... j/k) to optimise and OC to 245/400, and got a pretty low 3dmark score... (7880) Oh well! It'll be running @ 8x6 most of the time (thru tv-out), so it need not bench much better than a stock ti200... and I can't wait to see the IQ of tv-out on this card...

But... on the subject of the mobo/cpu... I used my usual benchie util (for when I don't have sandra by my side), which is PassMark Performance Test 3.5... This board did very well!! Ran like an already optimised kt266a... Well, that's prolly cuz I got a temp. stick of OCZ PC2700 in it runnin @ cas2/1tcmd...

I'm having shutdown probs tho... This may be surmountable, as I remember this board having (two) either power sw (hopefully) or power led header locations... and I should try the other one... On shutdown I get the XP version of "It is now safe to turn off your computer", and then I push power and nothing happens... rrr... I'll figger it out.

Though it's an mATX mobo, the layout works fine in a full sized case... THe 3 pci slots cover most of what I need (when I move I won't need 56k no more, so that'll free up one)... and the LAN onboard works great...

... and the ATA-66 7.2k HD really doesn't feel like too much of a bottleneck at all... it does fine on Perf. Test, and does not hold my system back one bit...

I must say, I'm pretty excited about this HTPC box... Though the case is a mid tower, the rest of the components clearly point to this system's intended use/capabilities... I'm luvin that I have firewire on the sound card AND the AIW's dongle... and I got the remote (yippee!)... now I just gotta get another few PS1 dualshocks and usb adapters (already have one... wanna do split screen serious sam/ea sports games and PS1 games) a bluetooth card/kbd mouse, and the system font pack for winXP media center (there oughtta be if the os is made for TV's...)... dang! This is also the imaging box as well, being connected to a BJC3000 and an HP scanjet 5300usb...

Dang, my gamer box is kinda stripped bare now... (well, it's the gamer box to me... are my standards low?)1600@1.58, 256mbPC2700, ti4200 @ 310/560, sbLive 5.1mp3, WD400BB... IT'S GOT THE BETTER CASE THO!! You know what it's only the lack of the audigy that makes it feel bare... but I know what sound card will like my 5.1 reciever better...

...mad props to MSI for making an easy to set up HTPC mobo (btw this was ver. 1)... so far it's been pretty low stress...

any feedback/opinions/etc. on this chipset/setup? I'm rearin' to get this baby rollin! (hah at the same time i kiss dial-up good-bye)...

CHEERS.
