Any word on whether nVidia intends to address this major discrepancy in their capabilities compared to ATI?

Even if I play Oblivion at 1600x1200 w/ HDR, the quality is still nowhere near as good as if AA was enabled as well.

Also, could someone please explain why this has been impossible to achieve (so far) on nVidia hardware?

Some games allow both at once, I know Hl2 does.

Nvidia cards cannot do FP16HDR + AA. Sometimes x1900xtx's can do it, but often require workarounds.

In the case of Nvidia, it is a hardware limitation. HDR with floating point precision will never be supported on Geforce 6/7 cards. This has been discussed to death.

From my understanding it depends upon how the HDR is implemented. As far as the GeForce 6 series, they'll never be doing any HDR with AA- but the 7 series can depending on the implementation of the HDR.

FP16HDR and AA is not possible though. Atleast, not untill G80, we can all hope.
