Well I just picked myself up a new WD250GB SE16 drive today. So I installed it and checked the temp, and its reporting it as 64c... Hot ya think? But I felt the drive and it was just slightly warm, not hot or anything. So, any ideas on why its reporting it as so hot?
Is the probe sandwiched between the hdd and anything else that might be another source of heat? I don't know how your rig is set up, but that may account for it.
There is a known bug with these drives. I have 2 of them. (just bought second one today at Best Buy on sale). SpeedFan shows mine at 56' C and I'll check the second one once I get it installed. Again, known bug, so don't fret. :D

maybe a firmware update? have no idea how to do that, but have heard of them with the Maxtor drives that didnt like working with nforce4 boards...
Not that I know of. There is no firmware update for these, I've checked. It's not really running that hot, but I don't like not knowing the exact temps either.
