View Full Version : Zonealarm...eating so much memory.
I moved from NI05 to zonealarm suit..seems fine..but its eating so much memory...almost 100MB mem now its @..wtf?..I am thinking NI05 was alot better than this one....even tho more resources were up and running.
The latest ZA v6.5 does seem buggy. Sometimes when I try to uninstall an application through add/remove programs, rundll32 all of a sudden uses up 100% CPU until I kill it. I could not uninstall the application until after I uninstalled ZA.
I went back to NI2005..sigh..+8-10 resources...atleast i wont run out of memory.
Did some google..and its a memory leak in the anti virus program...either way i uninstalled the entire thing.
I really liked sygate till Symantec bought them out, it was free for home users. I think it was the best software firewall out, very small foot print and a awsome traffic log.
You can still download the original Sygate 5.6 here.

I'm using ZoneAlarm pro and it works fine. Granted, I have a gigabyte of ram so I'm not too concerned of running out of ram any time soon, but I could see how you would be concerned if running any less than a gig.
I have a 1GB ram :/. The problem comes if you have Zone alarm Suit. with there anti virus program. It causes memory leak which ends up eating 4mb/min
New and improved features in ZoneAlarm Pro version 6.5.714.000
Fixed – In some instances rundll32 takes ~90-99% CPU

hmm not sure if they say its the antivirus fix or the firewall fix... The antivirus fix is a memory leak or something like that.
