Well the good old trusty Inquirer has a lovely story this morning. Should this hold true I will not go Quad Sli with DX9.

:D
Although Conroe excites me more than early DX10.

Sweet, I should be able to eBay my 7950 GX2 for $500 in a few months and get a G80 for nothing

mmm Dual G80s and Conroe....
G80 will be around 500million transistors and is sceduled for the back to school period according to Nvidias Michael Hara (http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=116466&p=irol-EventDetails&EventId=1322060) at JPMorgan 34th Annual Technology Conference.Credit goes to beyond3d forums (http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28551&page=9)

500mill trannies on 80nm. This surely won´t be a small die. The G80 is a completely new architecture, and not a straight evolution step from the G71 (NV47) tech? I wonder how much raw power the GPU will have with a budget of 500 mill. trannies, compared to the 280mill. of the G71. Can SM4, HDR+AA, improved memory controller use up that many transistors? Obviously not, but enough not to expect a 48-pipeline-ish monster (2xG71 on die) but since the architecture will be very different, the pipelines will be as well.

No it sure wouldn't, it would have to be the size of a football field to fit so many trannies! :D
Is there any news on the upcoming version of the g80 corresponding to the gt of the 7900 series? :) Thinking about getting a new conroe system, or 20" widescreen, in July.

All we could confirm at this time is that the chip will be DirectX 10 compliant of course but it won't have the full implementation of Shader Model 4.0. It won't do the unified Shader but it will be Vista ready.
Does he mean that G80 doesn't fully support SM4.0 cause it doesn't have an unified shader architecture? Lol this guy is a joke

Are you sure it is 80nm and not 65nm?

If the G80 will be name as Geforce 8800 due to launch in Sept and you get it for nothing then what if Nvidia will launch Geforce 8850 GX2 a few months later? :D

Ever heard of a thing called "the EVGA Step-up program"? :D It sucks that we can't buy evga products here in Europe! :(

I remember a Nvidia conference thing back in Spring where they said that the G80 would debut at 80nm. Not sure if they changed these plans but you never know.
Well, the talk about 300w makes sense with this numbers lol.
Im sticking with my Quad until the prices of the G80 goes down , Im never buying cards at launch again + Im more intrested in Conroe:D

Yeh im more interested in a new CPU and Conroe is certainly the only sensible choice this year, be glad to see the back of this amd chip tbh.
I shall get this or the best card out whenever Crysis comes out.

Hummm yeah I remember, at the time I thought they'd release an 80nm G71+ and that G80 would be on 65nm, but seems there'll be no new cards before G80 so you're probably right.

Let's just hope that G80 isn't plagued with all the problems that 7900 users have been experiencing. They need to get this thing rock solid like the 7800 series. But I'm not worried, since it's a completely new architecture.
C'mon, where are the rumors? I'm surprised that we don't know more about G80 at this time considering the rumors about a September release. Usually we would know the basic specs by now, but since we don't I am a beginning to be a bit concerned. Is there a big problem with the tape out etc...

there wernt really problems with the 7900 series, its the GT's with that wimpy cooler+huge stock over clocks... not nvidias fault at all.

I don't know- seems an awful lot of people seem to have problems with their GTXs.

Wow if it is 80nm with all they need to pack no wonder they say both NV and ATI have been talking to power supply companies behind closed doors.
I'm just going to pickup 2 cheap SLI cards when I build my conroe rig.
I'll pickup my DX10 cards the first of 07. :)
Even if AMD releases some super driver to boost there chips I'm still
going conroe. I cannot wait to start overclocking it. :D (nana2)

I know that it's still early & this is just the rumor mill, but, the few things that i've heard about G80 are bad compared to R600. I hope that G80 doesn't end like another FX series.

There are not enough facts out, but I have a bit of the same feeling.

not nvidia fault, its caused by the suppliers releasing OC'ed cards, they try to out do each other, and releasing cards with higher clock rate.

Like what mate? Please elaborate further please.

not true.. i have had 3 stock never overclocked 7900GTs die on me.. major artifacts after a couple days of use.. Im beginning to think that eVGA is just passing around the same set of RMAd cards around to the big crowd of people who have defective cards.
