I mean do you put the disc in, like windows XP and it will install to a formatted harddrive or to you have to install it over top of your windows XP .

You can format a new partition for Vista by using the DVD. Dual booting works fine as well.

You don't need to install it over XP. In fact, you shouldn't at this stage. Far too beta for that I think..

It's just like Windows XP. You put in the disk, and install it wherever you want. it has a built in partitioning and formating thing just like winXP. I definately wouldn't install it over winXP though, as rewt said, it's no where near being ready. I'd install it as a dual boot system.

I installed a new hard drive to run Vista. The problem was I never found a way of creating a 2nd partision during the install process. It kinda irrated me, but oh well, I'm planning on formatting again when the final Vista comes out. Maybe I just missed it but it didn't seem to be there.

Another stupid thing was Vista only giving me a 232 gig HD when its actually 300 gig. I'm running an A8N5x motherboard, and XP had no issues formatting this HD to the correct size :thumbdwn:

I created a 16GB partition with the Vista installation disk, on the same hard drive Windows XP is on. You just need some unallocated space thats all.

I agree, it's like XP except you don't have all the fluff of the XP install.
