Right before i send this back to the suppliers, i wanted to know what the problem is, seeing as other peoples knowledge on this subject is far greater than mine.
I have a Asus A8N-SLI primuim with the 7950, and absolutly nothing comes up on the screen - stays black, and the motherboard beeps 1 long 2 short to indicate there is a problem with the graphics card. I dont think i have the up to date bios which was just released to make this motherboard compatible with the graphics card, but i was told that the boot process should still show up on the screen. If it is a BIOS problem, then i will have to send it into a shop to be repaired, cause i dont have another graphics card that is compatible with the motherboard, and so i cannot change the bios version.

thanks guys, please let me know what you all think is the problem. Im betting its a faulty graphics card but i wanted to check before i sent it back.

Btw all cables are correct.

Thanks, fliip.

Those bios updates wrere made so the card is compatible, but if your not getting anything o nscreen at all, your card is DOA. I've seen 2 other users who had the same symptoms and both cards turned out to be dead, and the 7950 does work on that board with older bios versions. Try to find a friend with computer that sues pcie based cards, see if it is indeed the card. Or do what I do when I'm in a buckle, when my ram fried out and I had to RMA it, I went to Best Buy and got temporary ram, once my rma came back I simply returned it. When I had to step-up my cards and rma them to evga, I went to Best Buy again and got a temporary pcie card. Gotta love there 90 day policy, works perfect for temporary solutions :D

Dont blame the card when your mobo for the time being doesnt support the gpu, update the bios first http://www.nvidia.com/content/geforce_gx2_sbios/us.asp

He's going to need a bit more bad luck than a single dead card before he qualifies for that title. :D

Yeah, if that card toasted every component in his system the second it was installed, THEN he would be on his way to earning that title.

:D

lol tru dat.

If I were to pick out one example when it comes to showing how ridiculous my luck is it's the newegg ram fiasco. Out of 4 kits of RAM ordered 3 were bad right out of the box. Now THAT is some horrible luck.

I have you beat, I RMA'd a total of six 7900 GTX SC cards.

Believe me my bad luck is not limited to video cards or RAM. ;)

For one I've owned at least six LCDs and only one had no dead pixels.

The Bios updates are exactly for POST problems with certain PCI-E 16X video cards.

Quote from bios update for my mainboard:
A8N-SLI SE Bios version 0502
1- Fixed system hangs on POST while installing some PCI-E x16 VGA cards.
2- Update AWDFLASH to V1.17

err? does that mean it should show the boot screen even with an old BIOS?

Mine works fine with the old bios but I think MikeC had problems with his and needed an updated bios.

My vanilla A8N-SLI (non premium/deluxe) worked with the XFX right out of the box. No update necessary and my BIOS is several months old.

Quit asking questions and flash the damn bios, post means power on self test, if it cant power on theres no boot screen.

Err thats the problem if i could i would. I am not getting anything on the boot screen so i cannot flash the bios, because i cannot see! and i do not have another compatible graphics card to go with the motherboard. Im going to send it to a specialist tomorrow and update the bios, and if still no luck i will send the graphics card back.

You dont have any spare pci video cards? Look in the closet.

Just go to best buy and buy one, return it once your done or once your rma arrives if the card is dead.

Well i took my PC to the shop today, and apparantly its not the graphics card at all. The PCI port on the motherboard is %$*$ed, which was unexpected, so i guess im going to have to get another motherboard. I dont think ill get the A8N-SLI premium again, any recommendations on a decent motherboard for the 7950 where you dont have to worry about BIOS problems? lol

Heh, sounds exactly like Tygerwoody's situation with the same board.

Tyger, I think your board is DEAD :p

Pretty much any 16x based board will do, most manufactuars will be shipping the boards with the latest bios already installed.
