AFAIK SED isn't going to be out until at least 2007. So figure minimum 2008 before it's price competitive.
It looks like it will take longer than 2008. SED production by Toshiba already 3 times postponed since 2005 the original date.

Wow, This is amazing. If everything in that article is true and these new types of LCD's will really eb what there saying they are, they will be amazing.

FPD Taiwan 2006: Panel makers accelerate development of LED-backlit TV panel

Samsung and LG.Philips starting volume production of LED-backlit TV panels, second half this year.

CMO ( Westinghouse key partner) starting 32-inch LED- backlit TV next quarter this year.
CMO claims the panel is only 30mm thick (about 1.18 inches) the slimmest TV panel in the world.
Other details: response time of 6.5ms, a contrast ratio of 1,200:1, and almost 100% coverage of the NTSC color gamut.

CPT's 37-inch LED-backlit TV claims a contrast ratio of 8,000,000:1

Wow, I never knew that current monitors were LDR. I always assumed that since in the display CP and the ingame settings I was getting a full 32-bit colors and that the brightness and darkness was as good as it'd get. I mean, on my CRT black does look rather black- but not perfect. And as far as brightness goes it is pretty accurate- so it seems. Then again I do beleive that I would probably be stunned if I saw that monitor for myself.

If it ever comes down to a realistic price- I'll probably get one. Sure would be sweet to be gaming in true HDR. :D :D
