I m getting a new Video card and I am not shure what to get.
It Is A hard choise betwen These:
www.Newegg.com/product/product.asp?Item=h82e16814125139
And:www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?=h82e16814141026
the ATI Is Is Faster But does not have as much memory,
but the Nv is slower but has more memory.

also are there eny other cards for around that price that are better?

eny thawts on the matter?

Thanks guys for eny help.

Edit: The Links do not work. the cards are the: Nv GeForce 6800XT512 MB
and the ATI: Powercolor X800GTO 256 Mb

EDIT: both are AGP 4/8 not PCIe

I'd go for the 6800XT just because it has more features. performance wise i think the GTO is faster.

What do you mean by "more features"?

performance wise i think the GTO is faster.

so I would get more FPS with it?

Yes.

SM3.0/HDR

what is "SM3.0" ?

Shadermodel 3.0. Itīs primarly used to improve performance but a couple of games/programs actually require SM3 cards for addional visual effects, usually HDR.

I would try and go for a 7600GT AGP card instead. Nvidia improved their shader performance quite a bit from the 6 to 7 series.

Yeah the 7600GT is quite a bit faster than the 6800XT. The 6800XT is 150Mhz slower than the 6600GT, but it has twice the memory bandwidth. Its 350mhz with 8pixel pipes, the 6600GT is 500mhz with 8 and the 7600GT is 580Mhz with 12. With such weak GPU power (on the xt), it really limits it in pixel shader heavy games.

The 6800XT is decent but if you can wait a little while to go for a 7600GT, you'll be a LOT better off.

To the best of my knowledge no such card exists, atleast not yet. I can't find any anywhere, and I JUST tried searching for one.

Or, are you giving us a subtle hint about a product that SHOULD be out soon?

how much is it?

Only 12 pipes? For some reason I get the impression it wont be as fast as the PCI-e version. That is extremely lame.

Good grief. Well, if you want better performance you'll definitely need a 7800GS if you are stuck on AGP. For some reason, I just expected something more from the specs of the 7600 series. Not sure why.

the reson I wanted the 6800XT was the 256bit interface the 7600 dos'nt have it. so now I am looking at the 7800GS (or whatever the AGP version is called) I'm pritty shure it is 256bit but I am not shure If my mobo is AGP x8
How can I tell? also does the 7800GS come in 512 mb memory?

Just checked newegg I am not so impresed by the 7800GS compaired to some of the ATI Cards next to It.Thay were 60-125 megahertz faster.all though all of them sead AGp x4/x8

The clock ratings between ATi and nVidia cards aren't a very good method to use for performance comparisons. The 7800GS is pretty much the king in the AGP realm these days, although the X850XT PE outperforms it in some instances, the 7800GS has more features, as others have said.

A 7800GS at 500/1500 will always outperform the X850XT PE, and those speeds aren't too hard to reach either. And at stock speeds, the 7800GS will be the leader the majority of the time while offering full SM3.0 support.

If you can, get the 7800GS. It would be quite a bit faster than the 6800XT and noticably faster than the 7600GT. Again, I recommend you get it ONLY if you can afford it.

And yes, there is a 512MB version of the 7800GS- but Gainward makes it. They also have a 7800GS+ that sports 512MB of ram and a full 24 pipes. It is essentially a 7900GT with 512MB of ram for the AGP platform. After all is said and done it'd cost you around $550 to get it though. You'll have to import it.
