I've been raggin on the thing and I swore I'd never get one, but the 360s finally became readily available in New Orleans so I broke my bank big time and grabbed one. My beloved PS2 is crying now.
For the first time I actually got to see true High Def on my HDTV, which I've had for over a year now. Watched some movie trailers in 720p and it just blew me away. And the 5.1 digital audio is amazing! I spent the first night just playing demos and ended up buying Geometry Wars and UNO. I also got Perfect Dark, DOA4, and Burnout.
PDZ was kinda dissapointing as far as shooters go. Maybe I just have to get used to the controls, but I found it rather underwhelming. Burnout is just plain fun and the 5.1 digital sound is spectacular. I already had it on the PS2, but the upgrade was worth it. DOA4 is my favorite so far, though, and it's the main reason I bought the damn machine. (I'm falling in love with Christie!) I would have gotten Oblivion, but I've already got it on the PC. I prolly should have got GRAW, but I'm broke now. I needa eat.
I've never played a console online before, so I was amazed how easy the whole XBOX live thing is and how many demos were available. Practically every game out for the 360 has a good sized free demo for download. I really wish they had more HD movie trailers though. I'm suprised every movie studio doesn't pay Msoft to put their trailers up. There should be hundereds of them. I'd really love to see the Superman trailer in HD. And some of the trailers are lumped into the "game trailer" category for some odd reason. And it would be really nice if it could play WMV and AVI video files from a DVD. I've got a dvd player that does that already though. I'd get the Media Center thing for the PC, but Vista is coming out soon, so I'll just have to wait.
Other than that, the XBOX 360 rocks. I'm a new fanboy. What really won me over was being able to access the music on my PC through the network and play it during any game, any time. Didn't know it could do that! I never bought the xbox, always hated the thing, so the 360 really kicked my ass.
Anyways, I just wanted to share my gamer bliss with someone.:D

My gamertag is "slybri007" if yall wanna game.

Glad to hear that you are enjoying your investment...
Xbox Live Marketplace is definitly a great innovation, and if you have a 360 and are not connected online - you are missing out.
GRAW is amazing and I highly recommend it...guess I should rent DOA4 ...don't want to buy it because when/if Soul caliber 4 comes out...game over for other fighting games.

And yes, would love to see more movie trailers...and downloadable content from car manufacturers for racing games, just brilliant.

Slybri: When you do decide to get more games i would recommend fight night to you. its amazing to play through and probably one of the best looking games on the 360.

I usually wouldnt go for a boxing game but i decided to try out fight night and im glad i did. it really is awsome.

Graw is a great game too and cracking to look at so would definitly be worth a purchase.

Consider pgr3 aswell. its great and the best racer on the 360 imo.

Best racer on the X360 is Burnout... atleast it is in my opinion.

UNO is so fun. I love that game.

I also agree that PGR3 is the best racer on the X360. If you're a racing fan you'll love it. Burnout isn't as much a "racing" as it is a car action destruction game.

I was tempted to get Burnout for the 360, but Burnout 3 on the PS2 just had too many hangups for me, so I went with PGR3 instead. The way the cars rubber band in almost all EA games makes me hate so much. When "You are 10 seconds ahead!" flashes on the screen, and before its even faded all 8 cars have rubber banded way past me, I start to get pissed. Those "You are X seconds ahead!" messages seemed to just serve as warnings that the CPU was about to cheat its ass off.

That, and the timed laps were BRUTAL. You have to memorize all the traffic patterns, and if you crash even once you have to start over since all the traffic patterns from that point on won't be the same as a perfect lap, which you NEED to have to even get bronze. And then the load times...all I want to do is restart the race, why do I have to wait 2-3 minutes!

*Sigh* Ah well, turns out PGR 3 has had pretty annoying load times too, even when all you want to do is restart the race. I'm not sure how they load these levels such that they need to be reloaded to start at the beginning again, but I'm shocked they don't use a better way. At least PGR3 doesn't have rubber banding.

I felt the exact same way about Burnout 3. But many of those issues were addressed in Revenge. The rubber banding isn't nearly as bad. Most races you actually have a chance to win even if you fall behind.

If you're still not sure, rent it and play for a few days.

Burnout Revenge is more like Pac man, the way you eat up the cars in front of you. Took me a while to stop dodging them out of habit. It's not a real racer, but it's fun as hell and the crashes are spectacular. The 360 version is a lot better on load times. It's not as bad as the ps2 version, which had horrible load times. And being in HD, with the 5.1 digital sound, replaceable soundtrack, and online multiplayer, it's a lot better than the ps2 version. And that horrible DJ from Burnout 3 is gone. Hated that guy.

This summer looks pretty dry for 360 games. I'll probably get PREY on the PC. I may have to get Tomb Raider though. The demo was fun and the graphics were gorgeous. I hear it's pretty short though. Maybe I'll rent it.

The only saving grace for PDZ is the ability to play the entire single player game in COOP mode. The online multiplayer aspect of the game is good too. Like someone mentioned previously if you want to show off the power of the 360 get a copy of Fight Night Round 3, GRAW or Kameo. I'll add you to my friends list so we can crash into each other like mad men in Burnout!! :)

right on! I will crash you! I'd like to try the COOP mode in PDZ as well.

One thing that's really been bugging me is about the 360 is the screen tearing. Does the 360 not have some sort of Vsynch? It's really pretty bad. Almost ruins the graphics for me.

Another thing. I thought the Superman Returns game was coming out with the movie next week. Another reason I bought the 360. But apparently it's not out till Halloween! WTF?

Some games have screen tearing and some don't. Most of the games I own don't have tearing except PDZ and FFXI. It bothers me to the point I never turn vsync off on my pc, even if it means +20fps.

Anyone want to throw in some other 360 games that have tearing? Would like to know which games I might want to avoid or know what to expect.

Here are my game recommendations:

Project Gotham Racing 3 (Racing)

Kameo (Adventure)

Peter Jackson's King Kong (Adventure - buy second-hand if you can though)

Gun (Western Shooter - buy second-hand if you can though)

Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfight (Action)

Condemned: Criminal Origins (Horror)

Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion (RPG)

Rockstar's Table Tennis (Sport)

Dead or Alive 4 (Fighting)

And then the arcade games Zuma, Marble Ball Ultra, Geometry Wars & Hartwood Spades are really entertaining. I am currently considering Tomb Raider: Legends and Hitman: Bloodmoney as well, but I must afford Prey as well, so..

Actually buy every single game second-hand if you can with the exceptions you make yourself (I made Oblivion: CE an exception and will also buy Halo3, Gears of War, Mass Effect, Prey and other must-have-ASAP titles for full price), but most of the games listed above are now adequately old so you can buy them second-hand and save a lot of $, which is pretty relevant as it sounds like your bank account took a good beating ;)

The keep-away-from-list consisting of the games I've tried and disliked:

Perfect Dark Zero (oh too late :p)

Quake 4 - needs no explanation!

UNO - a bad purchase retrospectively - it's 90% luck and 10% skillz, which makes this a really bad game in the long run. Unfortunately I got carried away by the game's excellent presentation and soundtrack, but don't let it fool you I tell you!! (oh tool late :p).

I was really impressed by the Tomb Raider demo, but I heard it was really a short game so I may rent it. Same with Kameo and King Kong. With no mulitplayer, those games would be stupid purchases, even if they are pretty.

I've already got Oblivion for the PC. I'll probably get GRAW eventually and maybe that mech game. Prey I will get on the PC also, as I just blew over 1500 bucks building a new rig and I will never give up on PC gaming.

I'm seriously broke now though, after screwing up my bank account. There was a check I didn't know about that got cashed right after I bought the 360, and several overdrafts later I'm in a deep financial hole. I won't be able to eat or smoke for the next month, but at least I got an xbox 360! HArdcore!

I shall now retire to the Xbox360 and see if PDZ can win me over. God that Chandra has the worst accent ever! Is that supposed to be russian?

yeah, PDZ is a POS. Wasted 40 bucks on that game. Coulda bought GRAW, but no. I had to go trust the review of Gamespot's Greg Kasavin who said PDZ is, "just a thrilling experience that pushes the already-extremely competitive first-person shooter category still further forward." and "Perfect Dark Zero delivers just about everything you could hope for from a first-person shooter." 9.0! Superb! :thumbdwn:

I wonder how much Msoft paid him to say that.

My new general rule: Any first person shooter in which you cannot jump at all is gonna suck.

As a general rule, do not trust reviews, unless they're published after the release of a game.

First, review sites that have access to the game before the release are obviously bound to please the publisher in order for continue to have previw material; second, to have the review online in time for the release in stores, they have to rush through the game missing many details, less apparent at first glance, but still important.

Just look at the Oblivion reviews. It has been heralded as the second coming of RPG-jesus by the usual bunch of high traffic sites like IGN, gamespot, etc.Indepth reviews made by amateurial, non-profit sites and focused on RPGs, paint a much different picture.

Is it just me or is Oblivion a borefest?? I really tried to like this game but I find myself scratching my head wondering why I am investing so many hours into this when I could be on LIVE fraggin noobs in GRAW or knockin out some French loud mouth in FNR3?? I remember a time when RPGs and I were like peanut butter and jelly but in todays age of online multiplayer gaming 50+ hour RPGs seem stale. Oh and before I get bombarded by Oblivion fan boys I just want to state that this is my own personal opinion. I bet there are a legion of Oblivion fans that would beg to differ with what I've said. To each his own I guess.

The legion of Oblivion fanboys infesting the official forums are the same people who are asking for insta-kill headshots and who insist calling the Dunmers as "Drow". You won't find any here :p

Such is the audience Betehsda has attracted with Oblivion. Old time TES fans are quite pissed and call them "the 'Can't find Caius' crowd" in (dis)honor of a Morrwind quest that required reading a couple of dialogue lines to find a direction to a NPC, yet so many were not able to perform.

A recipe for a succesful game today is making a bland mix of shiny graphics and cheap action gameplay involving as little brain as possible.

Well, you have to admit some of the direction in Morrowind were pretty vague. I remember one, forget the quest, where it directed me to a cave "west, down the river". Well, after raiding about 5 or 6 caves along that river, I finally stumbled onto THE ONE. *Shrug* Happened to me a lot, a vague description, lots of the places along the way which seemed appropriate. Granted though, directions to places inside cities were usually much sharper.

Personally I like Oblivion more than Morrowind. The quest on a whole seem much more thought out. As well, I simply do not feel like wasting the time it takes to find some cave that is "north". I'm not sure how I feel about how they changed combat. It's different. Definately keeps me on my toes, I guess Morrowind may have spoiled me since barely 4 or 5 hours into the game I could just go toe to toe with anything and smash it to death without worrying much. I find myself getting destroyed pretty easily in Oblivion.

But then again, they definately are trying to cater to a different group. This one guy I knew once said "Morrowind was a ****ty action game" and I nerely throttled him screaming "THATS BECAUSE ITS NOT AN ACTION GAME!!!"

Well, among the many things missing in Oblivion, there is "exploration" which is a big part of the fun in an adventure/rpg. Not to mention that due to random loot, once you've seen a cave, you've seen all.

Directions must be somehow vague because finding the destination is left to the player, otherwise they might just use an arrow pointing to the locat...oh, wait. Nevermind :)

Hey, I *wish* had the time to waste "exploring" as you put it, but I don't. I work 40 hours a week, I commute 45 minutes both ways from work, I exercise frequently. I can play Oblivion in hour long spurts, tops. So I'd rather get to the meat of the game as fast as possible and not have to waste time "exploring".

I guess the game you'd want would be unplayable by me.

I was excited about Oblivion before it came out. Built a whole new rig just to handle it. Took the day off from work when it came out. Bought the CE. Played it for about a month and got sick of it.
Then again, about the only game I didn't get sick of after playing it for a month was World of Warcraft. It took me a whole year to get sick of that game.

Hey, I *wish* had the time to waste "exploring" as you put it, but I don't. I work 40 hours a week (...)That is exactly why I prefer videogames that completely disconnect me from this reality; to me exploring an unkown land -albeit artificial- is not exactly "wasting time" rather "enjoying my spare time alone, far from everyday routine, businness and family" :)

Oblivion, in the end, was just: "go here, kill this, bring back that" and not even without a good fantasy excuse to do that. Honestly, it looks more like everyday routine (without the killing part, well... at least for now ;)) I really had to stretch my imagination to pretend I was playing some RPG. I felt like the game was playing me and not otherwise.

Hell, I sit in front of a computer 8-10 hours a day but I can play maybe a couple of hours a week. That two hours must be really special, not some kind of futile exercise of my finger reflexes.
