Offsite Chip Wagering:
If I were a betting man, I would be taking 10 to 1 odds that 64bit AMD CPUs end up in Apple boxes by year end. I would bet that GFFX 5800 Ultra cards never make it to retail shelves, although I was told differently this afternoon. And lastly I would bet that Dell starts selling CPUs from another major manufacturer, or they use that possibility as a bargaining chip to get a much better deal on Intel CPUs. Of course, I am not a betting man."

I'd have to say it's probably a good thing he's not a betting man. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being definately and 1 being no way its happening, I'd rank them

K8 getting used in Apples 3
FX Ultra not hitting shelves 2
Dell selling AMD 4

The first and third ones have come up about 40 times in recent years, and it never happens.

1. I don't see Apple giving up their closed architecture.

2. NV isn't gonna not release a crown regaining card(albeit slim and shortlived)if they have one...you MAY see them quickly transition to a better reference cooling method.

3. Dell would likely lose more by having Intel take away proable substantial disounts on the processors that go in 4 out of 5 PC's then profits it would gain selling the processor that shows up in less than 1 in 5.

I don't think Apple moving to the Athlon would mean they're gonna open up. They'll still make it so it's locked to a certain mobo/bios, so you can't just go install it on any ole PC.

Theinquirer is now reporting they might just run out 100 000 cards before canning it. This seems like a good compromise than pulling it entirely now. Might become a bit of a collectors item in years to come.

(Yes, I DO have to say that in every [h] thread...they really pissed me off and I just don't get un-pissed all that easily)

It really is sounding more and more like nVidia was clueless about what the what was going to be when they launched the FX...I'm REALLY starting to think that they actually bought into their own hype and expected the FX to get a warm reception!

Seriously, the OTES system got pretty good write ups when it came out....geeks seemed to accept/like it, I'm almost thinking that was an nVidia marketing strategy to get us all ready for the FX. It's clock is an impressive as hell 500/1000, which hits the magic "gig" number and blows the 9700 out of the water...on paper...

Then the day of disapointment came when the first reviews came out, and I don't think nVidia was ready for the reaction it received. At first they went into denial and tried to re-write reality with spin, but then Hu mistook the RV350 with the R350 and I have this funny feeling that when they realized how wrong they were about THAT one was when the sh!t really hit the fan behind the scenes at nVidia and reality reared it's ugly head on 'em.

THEN I think they really panicked, and I think this is the result. :)

Yes, I'm enjoying this a whole bunch more than I should be...but I really do enjoy watching arrogance rewarded with humility. :)

Just read myself that the FX Ultra will not be going retail and are for people who have pre-orded their cards. Only the 5800 will go retail for 300bux.
