View Full Version : GRAW Chapter 2 on the Live Marketplace
Just to let everyone know the Content pack for G.R.A.W. just hit the Live Marketplace. It costs 1,200 points and I know that seems a little steep(I have not purhcased it yet). But the pack contains 4 new CO-OP missions, 12 new multi-player maps, new guns, and new models, and the ability to play 8 original MP maps in different times of day(night, dawn, etc.). I was just curious if anyone has purchased it and if they feel it is worth the 1,200 points.
SIGH at Magus - what a sarcastic twat, *takes check*

Thank you for your advertisement, Im sure Ubisoft will have your check in the mail.
1200 points is a ripoff when an expansion used to cost 20$ in stores and includes more content.
Not to mention that PC users already got additional content for free (and the editor, too). Let's see:
Xbox 360 GRAW experience: $60 for game + $15 extra for maps + $50 a year for Live
PC GRAW experience: $40 for everything.
All of the sudden PC gaming doesn't look THAT bad at all :p

You gotta be kidding me, the PC version still isn't even playable online yet.
No dedicated servers, a CD-Key rejected problem, the AC cheat is knocking off legit users from clean installs, and even with the addons it STILL doesn't have asmuch as the 360 version upon release.
Give it until August though, then I would totally agree.
More content and patches coming in July and August.

I'm pretty sure this content pack isn't available on the PC for free.
The content is not the same, but look what Ubisoft is offering to PC users:
Today Ubisoft announced the release of an all new free content package for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter™ for the PC. The massive content update delivered by Multiplayer Pack 1 builds upon the original game by offering new multiplayer modes, expanded coop campaign through newly added missions and the addition of an all new map editorAll for free.
On the Xbox 360 it's $15 (1200 points) for a few maps. Next time, it'll be $20, then $25, etc. Paying = "Yes, rape me". Some people might find value in $15, I don't. They might end up paying while I don't but, as an Xbox 360 user, I will be affected as well because when Microsoft, Ubisoft or whatever publisher realize that there are so many people willing to pay, they'll push more content at an exaggerated price. Or release cut down games to capitalize on additional content.
Did you say Horse armor ?
To be fair, I hardly think the content in the pack boils down to "a few maps". I'm not exactly overjoyed about what's included in it, but it's hardly the worst offender. Just look at BF2, $10 for 3 maps and so far two packs have been released with god knows how many more on the way (Oh, and did we mention that those maps are integrated into the main game so that you see them on the server list even if you don't have them? As well as added into many server's rotations so you get kicked off on map change if you don't have them?). Not to mention HL2 Episode One, which has roughly 1/10th as much new content as the original game for almost half the price.
But really, comparing it to the PC version is pretty moot since the two games are very different to begin with. And like Peoples-Agent said, the PC version didn't even have as much content as the Xbox 360 version did on release. Neither is much of a "value" considering what they offer.

I'm pretty sure this content pack isn't available on the PC for free.
The PC "Patches" that are coming out in June (The one thats out) , July and August will make the game on a parr to what the XB360 version was on release.
THEY ARE FREE, .. they are patches to fix nasty bugs allsorts of crap. Don't even have dedicated server files yet for christ's sakes.... it's not extra or new content over what the XB360 already has.
There has been nothing announced with regards to an actual seperate content pack, they are simply struggling to give what wasn't in the final release.
While I don't mind paying for new maps, camo, weapons etc... 1200 points is excessive.
I think someone made a good point before when they said this was premiun content. If you really love the game, you'll buy it. It's not for everyone. It's not even for the guy who plays it on the weekends, or gets a match in after work. It's for the most hardcore out there.
You know what I wish they'd release? Something for Hexic which changes the colors, or numbers things, or something. I'm colorblind and I can barely tell half the colors apart. Neither can my brother. Ruins me on bombs :P
There's a difference between enjoyment and fanatism. I've a Xbox360 and I live in one of the wealthiest contries of the world, but it's not because i've 15$, 150$ or 15000$ to spare that I'll buy something not worth that price: It's 1/4 the price of the game itself for less than 1/10 of the content.
You are kidding yourself if you think it's fair. And while everyone is free to do whatever (s)he wants with the own money, it will end up damaging also the other gamers. Because UBI is just testing the waters, just fishing for suckers.
Something already happened with the 60$ pricetag on videogames.

Something already happened with the 60$ pricetag on videogames. How DARE they finally raise the price of games after more than 10 years of $50????? How DARE they!!!!!!
Man I knew all this would start happening the minute I heard about Live marketplace. Charging for stuff that used to be free. I can just imagine the number of squealing kids begging their mommies for the credit card so they can get the extra maps or that alternate color race car.
I can understand buying full versions of Live Arcade games. I've bought a few myself. But I can't understand charging people for extra content that is available for free on the PC. And so soon after the release of the game. Almost like they left stuff out on purpose to sell later.
Now if I could get Marketplace Points from somewhere else, like Pepsi bottlecaps or McDonalds, like a promotional deal, that would rock. I kinda thought that was the idea behind having a point system in the first place. They did it with I-tunes.
Also: All that bull**** from J. Allard about xbox 360 being "what the gamers choose to make it" turn out to be paying for new dashboard skins and gamertags on marketplace (none of which appeal to me at all) was...bull****.
Well, at least we don't have to pay for game demos and movie trailers...yet.

The funny part was there was free map downloads for Halo 2 and Ghost Recon 2 and those are just the two I know about. And yes if people start to pay for this bull**** then developers will start to leave more and more from games when they release. Why put all the missions is a game when they can release the game with 50% of them and then drain you of ANOTHER 60 dollars over the course of a year. And also while you said it jokinly I actually thought we were going to have to pay for demo and movie trailers I mean whats to stop them?

At first I thought this would be a great thing but I can now see they will take alot of advantage of us especially if there games sell aswell as GRAW did. They could have atleast added some bonus content over what PC users got. And calling it Chapter 2 is very misleading IMO as there is nothing for single player which I would have gladly paid for.
We will see alot of holding back on future games in hopes to release it later on in the Marketplace for more profit and the fact that even the simple things such as gamer pictures and themes that should come on the disk of the game they feature I think shows a bleak future in that we will be paying alot more than $60 for our games. It makes perfect business sence but really sucks for us as gamers.
I see a bad trend coming where games become rather bare bones and then you have to pay for more and more, though I am hoping it never really comes to that.
It is a slippery slope for game companies because it seems like a good idea and can be a good idea but it will be very easy for some companies to see $$$ and try and expand and experiment with ways to get more out of it.
For what is in this pack though I would say 4.95 would have been ideal or as high as 7.95 or 9.95.

Can X360 owners really say that Ghost Recon was bare bones though? It had more from the beginning then the PC version aswell as feeling far more polished.
Does it suck to get what usually is free at a charge? **** yeah but if you don't like it or support it then don't buy it. If people are truly pissed then don't buy it, thats the best way of showing Ubisoft that you wont stand for it.

I don't like it either, but I understand considering the cost of development is getting more and more expensive. Consumers are expecting the latest and greatest in graphics and other features, such as physics, which weren't around a few years ago. All these things take developers more time, and time = money. :(
Oh not at all, I think it would be a while before it becomes a big deal honestly GRAW is awsome on the 360 and like you said, you dont have to buy the add ons.

Right. Giving money to the developement compay is *hurting* the gaming community. What it IS doing is rooting out the cheap bastards (like yourself) who throw a hissy fit anytime they have to pay for something. You do realize that developers do this for a living, and without financial compensation for their work, they would be unable to continue making games? But you don't care about any of that do you? You just want free entertainment. If that's the case then please talk to a12tic. I hear he'll expose himself for anyone who makes the switch to linux. I personally am not buying this update, but I have no problem against it either.

With a few exceptions (once in a while a AAA title will come to the PC that I want), I play games exclusivly for consoles. I used to play games exclusively for the PC. I'm glad I made the swtich for several reasons.
1) OVERALL console gaming is much cheaper. Even though games cost a tad more, it's still cheaper than having to dick around with video card/cpu/etc. upgrades every nine months. An extra $15 (which no one is forcing you to pay) is NOTHING compared to having to upgrade your video card to get "the full GRAW experience."
2) I don't have to deal with any incompatibility/driver issues/etc ****. I can actually focus on playing the games. The convienence factor is through the roof with a console.
