Hi all,
I currently have a bog standard Ti4200 with 128mb and am considering getting a Connect3D 9500 128mb (non pro).
After doing the hardware or software upgrade will this give me extra speed?
My current clocks for the Ti4200 are 295\544.
Is it worth it?
I would have to say no,
an R9500 will perform around the same, or slightly better than a TI4200. It will be able to do certain processes faster because of it other features including DX9. But if you look at the benchmarks, a GF4TI card is only JUST slightly less than a R9500.
A better investment is the R9700 (pro or non-pro), and they don't sell for much more money. Here's a R9700 non-pro for $218

Thanks for that.
But will it make a difference if i changed it to the 9700 and clocked it?
it does have clocks of 275/275, im sure you could squeeze a bit more out of it!

Be carful of fti computers. I just baught a 9700 card from them.
The problem is i thought i was getting a 9700pro. But when i checked the clock speeds of the card it turned out it was running at the non-pro clock. Ive contacted them about the problem hopefully i can work somthing out.

per ati specs.. the 9500 PRO is designed to compete with the 4200... not the 9500 NON-pro which is designed to compete with the gf4mx seres of cards and below...
I would highly recommend getting the 9500 PRO over the NON-pro version...
you can of course do the software mod but there are no guarantees as to if it will work... remember it is not tested to work as a 9700 non-pro by people other than you that are in the privy :) its a risk..
the 9500 PRO compares very favorably with the 4600 and outperforms it handily in FSAA :)
like chalnoth says... no reason for people using a gf4ti and above NOT to play with a small degree of FSAA turned on :)
