THis is over @ rage3d too, but if y'all have any suggestions, PLEEZE help me... I really want to get my htpc runnin right...

Ugh...

I installed this card, and first time, I just used the newest Catalyst drivers, not knowing that it didn't include support for all the other devices on my card... So every time I start up XP Pro, I get TONS of "new hw found" msgs... it ran, (7900 3dmarks @ 245/400) but was missing stuff... At the time I couldn't find my factory supplied disc... Well, I found it last nite... uninstalled the ATI display drivers and deleted the ATI directory... then threw the disc in...

Double ugh...

It crashed xp as soon as the CD spun... So I restarted it, and this time I got the menu to come up... Crash again... Restart again, and the menu came up without crashing. Drivers installed... (all of 'em)

Triple Ugh...

System restarts and detects no vidcard in XP... What? I just installed the drivers!! So I delete and uninstall and try again. Same deal... Then, the third time I do this, it installs, but I get blue screen/restart upon loading XP's startup screen... So I screw with fast writes, aperture size, Quick POST, assign IRQ to VGA, disable modem IRQ, so on and so forth. It finally starts up, detecting the vidcard... but no drivers are there for the other stuff... So I explore the CD and install WDM and ATI control panel...

The stuff's still not there, and I still get "new hw found" msgs... Oh, and my system recovers from a serious error every time I startup now... I'm gonna redo an install of XP pro, and I'm gonna redo this stuff after I get my bearings... This is annoying... almost as much as a moody kt133...:)

OK, so I have the new catalyst drivers, and last nite on my work PC I downloaded some other files... So now I have:

catalyst 3.0
tv-capture-wdm-6-13-10-6173v3
control-panel-7-81-021218a-007192c-efg
MMC-7-6-noDVD

Am I missing something?

I have an MSI km266 mobo with VIA 440's installed, an XP1600+, 256mb elixir PC2100 @ cas2.5, 2tcmd, SB audigy (driver not installed yet)...

Quadruple ugh?

me=ati n00b.
help me...///

With an AIW, you will get a whole bunch of "new hardware found" messages for a bunch of stuff you never heard of (eg: crossbar). Don't worry about it - you don't need to download anything else. Those drivers will load automatically.

Hey bro. Start simple. Install Cat3.0 and then the control panel and get the newest 4in1 hyperion drivers. I have the MSI RU266a mobo.
Make sure you get rid of all video registries of Nvidia and ATI. Do not install any of the MM programs until you get the card up and running in games fine first, that way you can limit your error areas down. If all else fails back ur system up and do a new install of WinXP. Also do not let XP install any drivers that it tries to install when it finds the card.

Install them, in that order.

Of course you're computer is going to recognize new hardware, it's supposed to. After it recognizes it once, it will not alert you again.

Have fun;)

I thought ATi recommends capture drivers first, then Cat3, then restart computer, then control panel, then restart, then MMC etc. restarting as required.

Thanks, you have it right, I'vre forgotten since I haven't updated the drivers on my old VIVO in a while, still playing w/ the R8500 in my main rig:)

I'll still pick NVidia cards over ATI for one reason.....you hit "I agree" and you install and then reboot and it's all good. But who knows.......it's 2003 a lot might change in a year.

I reloaded XP Pro, and finally found and used the factory supplied driver disc, which did everything... The only prob. is now I gotta figure out which files to replace when I go to DX9 and Cat. 3.0...

I do like the IQ of this card.... It's weird how UT2k3 really does look diff than on my GF4ti...

Some may thumb their nose at this, but Serious Sam 2 looks wonderful @ 8x6, 4xAF/4xAA and 10x7, 2xAF, 2xAA...

I gotta find radeonator 2.0 again... kick my clocks up a little...

I've had (1) wierd Driver install w/ my ATI64DDRVIVO, which as far as I can tell isn't too bad considering it's a VIVO, and none w/ my R8500. All I had to do was unistall and re-install w/ the VIVO to get things up and running prperly again. Man, I still love that little 64DDRVIVO;)

You'd be wise to try ATI again, give 'em s shot:)

If I give ATI a shot it'll be their R450, not the crap they have out now. The R400 and Nv40 will be great products.

you silly people... This thread's about R200 DV, not R450 or whatever... Take your rumors and plugs to the "Rumor Mill"... This thread was written to aid myself and others with AIW 8500 DV problems...

;) ;) ;)

:)

... I just wish I could order a brand new driver CD with the 3.1 cats on it... Or it'd be real cool if you could download the whole package...

BUT NO!! You gotta do everything separately, and in a certain order, or it won't work!! Ehhh, it's not that big of a deal... I'm having a worse time with my audigy and it's old drivers, and an EVEN WORSE time with getting XP Pro to run reliably on an MSI KT266... but that's for another thread...

how are the CAT 3.1 by the way? Looks like they're doing the "25%" increase thing that nvidia does too. lol.....just kinda funny. I bet the increase is with AA and AF on.

3.1's are incredible, the word is that Ati has passed nvidia on driver quality with these. I jumped about 15fps in ut2k3, and as far as the "crap" that you talk about. The 9700pro is nothing but gaming heaven, but you can't see that with the glaze over your eyes. You deserve to have to play at whatever crappy settings you are restricted to. Now stop trolling, you'll get owned everytime.

That'd be real nice to experience (the cat. 3.1's) on my slowed down 8500...

99/creedamd: I'm gonna have to poke both of you with flaming sticks, suckas :POKE: Dang it, it won't light on fire! :D:D:D:D LOL

Any info on IF this driver update affects R200?

Hey look I'm running on a Geforce 4 Ti 4400 and have a P3 800 Mhz EB processor. Getting anything better than a Geforce 4 would be foolish for me because my processor is the bottleneck. My new rig that I'm building won't be ready until fall, so whatever comes out then will be what I'll be getting. I'm not gonna spend my money on something that just came out 6 months ago...or even the nv30 for that matter. They're not much of an improvement over the Geforce 4 in my opinion. When the r400 and nv35 will be! That's what I'm saving my money for. And my eyes are not glazed and I'm restricted with the my current crappy system so upgrading it is useless. My new rig will be gaming heaven... and I'll buy whatever is the best at the time it's all ready to go and needs the graphics card. And I'm not trolling I'm just saying that I'm not gonna dish out another 400 dollars to get UT2003 to run smoother...yet!

Maybe their R400, but not the R300 or the overclocked R350.

It's not only in fsaa&aniso situations.
If you test UT2k3 flyby you'll see there is a large increase.
Especially the antalus map since I only have the demo to test.
The "trick" that has given the extra performance has come by reducing the minimum fps thus increasing the average fps and giving you a smoother game.
