There might just be something in all the news of NV30 being tossed aside.
Just 2-3 days ago, the Inquirer was reporting they heard the FX was essentially being canned, and that only 100,000 units would ever be produced.
As usual, most people thought to themselves, "There goes the ole' Inquirer again...Come on...nVidia isn't going to scrap the FX, no??"

They're now reporting something even worse (a good/bad kinda deal)...That 100,000 units has now been dwindled down to a mere 10,000 units!
There's good news, however...The Inquirer is claiming that the FX is being scrapped in favor of the NV35. Based on some of the whispers that have floating about, this seems like a _good_ thing.
Of course, if all of this pans out...and I stress the word if... you would have none other than ATI to thank for all of this. Without the 9700, the potential for a much stronger FX product would never have happened.
Personally, I hope the FX dies out right now, and they bring the NV35 out. They absolutely need to get themselves back on the same footing/track as ATI, rather than end up playing catch up for the next year.
Although the full specs of R350 are not completely known as of this time, there was little doubt that it would really make life difficult for NV30...heck, the 9700 already has made life difficult, much less a part sporting higher core clock and a 8-10 GB/sec bandwidth advantage.
