Why deos everyone always get worked up over 3dmark scores?

benching at 1024x768, is like someone telling me that they can run a DOS game fast.

Oh, is that what res he ran at? I thought the default was like 1280x1024.

I guess you didn't know 3dmark06 is at 1280x1024...

Maybe it's the nicotine wirthdrawl that is getting old :p

I guess I didn't... :o I assumed since the, last versions were 1024x768 default res...

Personally I think this thread has much more pertinent info, as it is more like somehting I would do (I mean how many people have triple head phase systems?):

I don't care because I don't OC and even if I did I wouldn't be able to OC like that. :D

Well, its mostly just for the wow factor. Its like talking about quarter mile time with top fuel drag cars. No one drives cars like that, but its still impressive :p

Is this the highest 3dmark 2006 score so far?

That guy @ Guru3D has run a massive amount of benchies on both systems, very pertinent indeed.

Conroe is amazing @ any clock speed, above 3Ghz it completely destroys everything in its path. great stuff.

this is quality stuff:

F.E.A.R 1600x1200, 4xAA 16xAF, all max:

Opteron 165 @ 3GHz: Min 25 | Avg 43 | Max 172

Conroe @ 3GHz: Min 53 | Avg 86 | Max 310
nice!!

Actually that was the only problem I found with his benches, because the 1600x1200 FEAR results show a 50% improvement over a64 clock for clock, but the 1024 results show 12%.

That doesn't make any sense to me...

well he posts the numbers so take what you want from it - im not saying its gospel but its a s**t load better than most things out so far.

Yeah but usually when you increase resolution the differences that a CPU will make decreases, yet his results show the opposite.

Basically I think I need to get one myself, but I am not buying an inflated ES chip (the 975 boards look like they are in abundance now though.)

Lars posted very similar result from FEAR in another thread some weeks ago, 2 people with the same great score on different rigs, pretty hard to dismiss.

Yeah his benchies are very impressive, but a bit strange.

The polygon throughput in the pcmark tests go up quite a bit with the conroe. Thats probably a major factor in the Oblivion performance results.

Looking forward to more tests like this. I really hope its all true and it actually works like this for everyone. I'd go as far to say that this is like the performance jump from an Athlon XP to an Athlon 64.

Oblivion for CaptNKILL:

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
1600x1200, Full HDR, 8xAF, Everything Maximum
This FRAPS run was taken from the very beginning of the game, up until the time that the king leaves you.

Opteron 165 @ 3GHz: Min 15 | Avg 83.993 | Max 689

Conroe @ 3GHz: Min 29 | Avg 132.776 | Max 1546

wow.

Look at the MIN frames on 1600. They're a lot better than with the AMD.

Still, why would you have a greater % improvement in minimum frame rate at 1600 compared to the 1024 results?

Yeah damn it I can't wait till July 27th...
