Who really know if this is true sounds like a silly rumor :wtf: to me?! But if it was true this would change the graphics industry in a hurry.

Link is fixed.
Nope, the page is still there. It's also linked on the nvnews home page. Pretty hard to swallow though.
According to a news article on Sinatech 新浪网, a Chinese daily. It reported that there is news that AMD has acquired ATi and it will be officially announced.
The person who disclosed this news to the media didn't reveal too much details involving the acquistion deal including the price of the deal etc.
If AMD buys ATi, that will definitely remap the ATi's integtated graphics strategy. AMD's partner is NV. NV's might have to re focus on the Intel platform. hmm
AMi vs Ntel warzz!!!!! :D :D :D

I would most certainly say hard to swallow.
I'll wait for an official source, like the Inquirer, to report it before I believe it. :p

We already heard about this rumor last month and honestly I thought that this one has already died. I wonder what stock traders and analysts think about it. Itīs not uncommon that mergers, especially big ones are anything but big secrets, f.i. the merge offer from Renaut and Nissan towards GM.
i think its better to merge amd and nvidia :)
go go green team! :D

If such a thing really did happen though the consequences would be fairly severe.
Wow! Hard to believe though.
AMi X21900XTX Dual CGPU CrossfireX2 FTW! :)
...this will definitely pwn conroe and g80 :D :D

So if this really did ever happen would Nvidia and Intel join forces or what? At some point graphics and everything may be done on one chip.
From jAkUp's interview with Tim Sweeney:
Sweeney- Looking at the long term future, the next 10 years or so, my hope and expectation is that there will be a real convergence between the CPU, GPU and non traditional architectures like the PhysX chip from Ageia, the Cell technology from Sony. You really want all those to evolve in the way of a large scale multicore CPU that has a lot of non traditional computing power as a GPU has now. A GPU processes a huge number of pixels in parallel using relatively simply control flow, CPU's are extremely good at random access logic, lots of branching, handling cache and things like that. I think really, essential, graphics and computing need to evolve together to the point where the future renderers I hope and expect will look a lot more like a software renderer from previous generations than a fixed function rasterizer pipeline and the stuff we have currently. I think GPU's will ultimately end up being... you know when we look at this 10 years from now, we will look back at GPU's being kinda a temporary fixed function hardware solution, to a problem that ultimately was, just general computing.
So I wonder if these 4 companies will merge with each other and become 2 companies somewhere down the road or what will happen...well for now this still seems like a silly rumor, but it is interesting.

NV has claimed they want to start making their own processors, so i dont think theyll merge

That would be awesome! A completely Nvidia powered PC.:D

Why do you say that?

Why do you say that?
Well because the link that AMD and Nvidia have always had would be broken. The boys over at rage3d might just wet :drooling: themselves:p . And well Intel and Nvidia would have to decide what they would do.
And probably many other things too.

Forbes (http://www.forbes.com/2006/05/31/amd-ati-technologies-0531markets10.html) commented on a possible merger back in May. Gauging from the financial situations of both companies, if there are any acquisitions in the works, it would certainly be AMD acquiring ATi and not the other way around.

I just don't like the idea. The AMD/nVidia combination performs too sweet. I'd hate to be stuck with an ATi graphics platform if I wanted an AMD cpu. And I'd hate it just as much if I were stuck with an Intel CPU if I wanted an nVidia graphics card.
I really hope that the two companies did not merge.
