You can thank the rather conservative clockspeeds for that... I imagine if you begin to overclock the power requirements skyrocket though.

True enough. Hothardware rated a system with the M570 XFX top overclocked version at around 332 @ load.

A Core 2 Extreme X6800 supposed to consume around 117 doing a CPU burn test, so I should be gtg with even with an overclocked E6700.

By comparison the Pentium Ds are hogs and it is simply a placeholder for my E6700.

Try this for a Pentium D @ 950 speeds vs various Core 2 duo :

Also even the top dog overclocked XFX M570 7950 effects a system a little less than 6800 Ultra SLi did:
