Are these newer larger drives(250-300gb) more prone to data corruption than older smaller drives(120-160gb)? I am looking at a Maxtor 300gb,as well as a Maxtor 160gb for a friend who firmly believes that the newer larger drives will lead to data corruption.I know you guys will help me straighten him out.To top it off the 300gb drives only cost $20 more that the 160gb;)

Go for the 300gb drives. I have a maxtor 300gb 16 cache drive and it works perfectly. And like, you mentioned, there not that much more than smaller drives. I got my 300gb drive for 90 from tigerdirect after a mail in rebate. I usually use newegg because I find them to be cheaper but in this case I went to tigerdirect. $90 isn't bad at all either. Shop aroudn and you can find awesome deals.

I have an 500gb external Maxtor and it hasn't skipped a beat, even with getting carted to and from work almost everyday.
