You may find ATI in most Intel Macs these days, but when the so-called "true video iPod" debuts, chances are that it will be sporting technology from longtime competitor NVIDIA. Industry analysts at American Technology Research have raised their Apple stock purchasing recommendations from "hold" to "buy" on their belief that NVIDIA has secured its place in the much anticipated device. They believe that NVIDIA's entrance into the iPod can be viewed as a strong sign that Apple intends to support 3D on the video iPod, and they believe that this will translate into significant sales. News of the recommendation change first appeared on the Dow Jones Newswire.Full story here... (http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20060718-7295.html)

I hadn't heard anything about this prior to last night, must be new enws. I just hope Apple does their homework and gets it right if they do jump into gaming. That screen had better be at least the size of the PSP...not too big, not too small.

Ahh ok, I was wondering what was the point of putting 3D in an ipod. While I'm no Apple lover, I do think they have a brilliant design team so I would be excited if they decided to release a portable gaming system. (nana2)

So this could be a potential answer to PSP? Plays movies, music, games, maybe surf the web etc.

Wonder how powerful it will be.

Back in 2003 there was talk about a NV11 in a phone, playing 3D quake on a phone. Certain that by now, with the purchase of that mobile company and the GoForce line, that the NV-powered iPod would have far more capabilites than a paltry GeForce2.

What hardware is the Dell Axim running?? I know it plays Quake and Quake 3 amazingly well.

If Apple does move into the mobile gaming arena its going to hit hard. Every Dog and his Man has an iPod, hell even I have one (even though it never moves out of the car). With some smart choices, the right games, marketing. Who knows?
