:drooling:
looks like a game to take advantage of the PPU!

Codemasters announced today that it has changed the name for Colin McRae Rally 2007 to DIRT: Colin McRae Off-Road, and in Europe it will be known as just Colin McRae: DIRT.

Its actually nice they are going away from the WRC-only series (like the previous CMRs) towards multiple race series like Racedriver. Spoken of Racedriver, as a few people still might remember, the screenshots from that game looked also somewhat "too good" and the retail game wasnt that visually impressive. Im still optimistic and looking forward to this game. :) Thanks for posting SH64!

If you guys remember, Codemasters had simirlarly impressive screens of Race Driver 3/2006. Remember how that ended up?

Believe me when I say that the CMR screen is completely pre-rendered and just an image, it's not in-game. In-game will look completely different.

I read somewhere that they are actually renders, not being able to see any pixels + the dodgey shadows + the flat image background give it away for me. I'm sure some of the content is based on real assets though.

Yea that's right...they said it's a little too early for ingame stuff...go figure :( :p

Well, the car models were confirmed to be ingame assets ; it shows ; you can spot the polygon edges.

I don't buy it. How can people eat this BS from Codemasters (same goes for other developers as well). Not only does it look like a render, Codemasters are known for throwing very good looking pics at first and the game ending up like crap graphics.

Example:

From what it looks like, that were CG renders and nothing close to it will be in the final product except maybe in the render movies. This speculation is based on the screenshots from the demo. I seriously hope that Im wrong here but Im now pessimistic about this game since its scheduled for Q1 2006.

Thanks to all for posting the demo screenshots. You guys have saved me from downloading 130MB!

Yea but wasn't the Demo ultra crappy looking compared to the full game? Haven't played the full game, but the screenshots look much much better then the demo (yea I've played the demo aswell, and it looked like 2, maybe even worse)

No, the demo wasn't ultra crappy looking.

This is what the full game looks like.

I have it myself. Didn't play the dmeo, but I know the game's graphics aren't that impressive, and they certainly don't live up to anywhere those early screens promised.

Like I said, Codemasters is known for showing pre-rendered screens and horribly underachieving when it comes to the game itself. I'd be surprised if this new CMR would look better than RalliSport 2 seeing how the last ones didn't improve since #3.

I still think XPand Rally has very good graphics :)

Yea as far as I'm concerned, Xpand Rally which came out in 2003 (or later in north america, not sure) still has better graphics than any other PC racing game at the moment, maybe except GT Legends. PGR3 on the 360 looks better than it, and Test Drive Unlimited when it comes out for PC will prolly look better too, but it still looks great.

project gothan3 looks like horses ass, i played it on few different TVs. some SDTV, some 720p, some 1080p.

game has good models, but what apears like lack of AA and AF kills it.

BTW, Xpand Rally Xtreme will be out in about a month or two, it will run on updated Chrome engine, same chrome engine that will be used in Call of Juarez, hope they used that spreading fire tech.
