From the Inquirer so...yea you know.;)
If true this could be a killer year for Intel.
THE CEO of Intel told financial analysts at a web cst last night that it will release its Kentsfield and Cloverton quad core chips before the end of this year.
The produces had originally been slated for early 2007.

Way too soon.

Well here is also another link confirming the same rumor (although I believe this is no rumor).

Intel would rock the PC world to keep the performance chips coming out this fast. Although being an enthusiast this is getting harder to keep up with. I will still buy Conroe because I simply do not have enough patience to wait till Decmber or whenever. :D But the power of 2 Conroes on one chip!!
Holy Crap that's power! :afraid:
Is there really any point of releasing it so soon? Amd dont have anything to compete so I thought they would have waited till at last k8l was showing up. Looks like Intel are going for the jugular.

I think it very good to release it so soon meaning AMD will be in very heavy pressure to force accelerate Quad core K8L development and see it launch in early 2007.
Their stock is on a fast road to crapstown, so they are just throwing press releases out hoping something good will stick.
With no decent processor interconnect in sight, their only option is to pile another 2 cores on to an already crowded bus and see how many people they can fool with it.
Hopefully one day we'll see the internal architectural efficiencies of Conroe combined with the external efficiencies of Opterons. IMHO, AMD will have a much easier time "borrowing" Intel's recent IPC improvements than Intel will coming up with a competitor to Hypertransport.

:wtf: Thank you AMD fan boy....next.

lol, he's clutching at straws (thin broken ones at that)
Intel will match and beat HT as and when they need too. To imagine they wont or cant is as blindly stupid as his post itself.
You, of all people, should not throw around the fanboy label :D
Can you point out one part of what I said that isn't true?
Here's an excellent writeup discussing what I am refering to: Intel has a major '06-'07 weak spot, and AMD is aiming right at it (http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20060106-5920.html).
Read it, understand it, and then come back and we can discuss it :D

I can see this building into a major butt ******* session, so i'll leave you children to it.

Aww, and you were bringing SO much to the conversation :D
Posting under secondary accounts is just sad.

unless you have good reason.
as I said i'll leave you kids to it.

What's the difference between Kentsfield and Cloverton? Is one just a more "EE" designated core setup? Sorry if this is an obvious answer, I'm not completely on top of the next-gen scene lol. :D

Intel Kentsfield XE Quad Core
Intel Core 2 Extreme (EE) Xxxxx 8MB 3.46GHz 1066MHz FSB...Q1 2007
Intel Kentsfield mainstream clock speeds are 2.40GHz-3.20GHz
Intel Clovertown 65nm Quad-Core 8MB 3.33GHz 1333MHz FSB...Q1 2007
This is a totally n00b question, but, same as dual cores don't have much in the way of software that uses it, Is there any real point to quad-core for now? I mean Vista will do dual core no problem, but will we have the quad-core patchs and problems lots of folks had with duals?

Ah the phrase pot calling kettle.........

The pain is going from single core to multi. Once you do that, the number of cores isn't that important. What will be interesting is how companies deal with a quad core in terms of software licensing.
I believe XP Home is still capped at dual-core support, while XP Pro supports up to 4. Of course, if you can afford 4 cores, you can afford XP Pro :D I think the only reason XP Home even supported 2 was pressure from Intel with hyperthreading.

Bring it on... I'll change the E6600 anyway for a Quad Core. The sooner the better!

If i remember correctly Microsoft has stated in the past that they are basing their licensing on the number of cpu packages within a system and not the number of cores.
When they said this quad was not on the horizon, but hopefully they will hold true to their word.

just face it tiki, intel cant keep up with amd, sure theyre a little ahead atm, but come Q1 and Q2 next year theyll be far behind, i predict another p4/amd64, intel can have their slight lead for a few months, amd will take it back...

Why, have you seen any performance numbers?^^
