View Full Version : Windows 95 still strong!
Just thought I'd share this with everyone. Pentium II 400mhz, 64megs SDRAM, 2gig HD, Windows 95B... Unreal Tournament server! Beleive it or not I've been using this setup for a UT server for 3 people + 5 computer players and it works flawlessly. And we NEVER reboot it either. Runs without reboot for several months at a time!
I always liked 95B and still find it useful for certain things even today. It's nice to see it still has some life in it
i will never, ever, ever, use win95b again. the horro. so many bad memories, blue screens, etc. 98se is good, but xp is the beats them all.

win95 is junk. i still have an old computer that runs it, nothing but headaches.
aw come on guys?! You aren't a little impressed with this? :( 95 may be old or considered junk compared to XP, but a UT server that is NEVER reboot that works great?! That's pretty impressive wouldn't you say?!

ok, ok, it's impresive, it's great....
:D:D:D
Troo... It does have it's uses...
To me, 95B with active desktop extensions and IE 4.0 PowerTools is better than 98 First Edition...
I remember when IE 4?Active Desktop/PowerTools first came out... It seemed to add a lot to the Windows environment... Definitely made me enjoy it more... Before that, the ideal setup was 95A and Netscape Gold 3.0... My college computers were setup like that... back in 96... A whole room full of Dell P133's with 17" monitors, and every system had LAN Quake setup as well as the trial copy of Monster Truck Madness... Yummy.
...We've come a long way.
I wonder how Win95 would run in an XP 2600 with RAID?

A friend of mine thinks of the Win95 OSR2 as one of the best OSes. Lighter than 98 and very compatible.
Remember the lastest versions of Win95 DO support FAT32. Only Win95 of 1995 doesn't.
Congratulations!!
I had Win98 systems running for years... 3.5 years in a 233MMX, now 2+ years in my actual computer (P3 840), and my father's computer has Win9x since december 97. First 95 and then upgraded to 98.

Or you could install a real OS on it that also runs on a 486 and is way way better at game servers than Win95... ;)

My mother has had Windows 98 first edition running for almost five years on her Compaq at work... Needless to say, the OS owes its survival to VERY unfrequent setup modifications... :D
