I just visited NWVault for the first time in 3 years (any NWN fan should know what that site is) and lo and behold there are a slew of great user-created modules. I mean these are GOOD! Professional Bioware quality (possibly better to be honest).

I just got done playing part one of the "Sands of Fate" series, and I'm having a blast with these. It's a three part series, and best of all, it's designed for epic levels (lvl 25 - 40) with epic loot. Part one took me about 15 hours to beat, so they have a lot of gameplay in them too!

Here's a quick link to them if your interested.

Sands of Fate -

Part 1: Shadows over Heliopolis

Part 2: The Gem Tower

Part 3: Pyramid of the Ancients

-edit

They are also very difficult. Nice to be challanged for a change.

I've just been playing the module that bioware released recently... the infinite dungeons... just awsome, especially in coop!

you ought to try the ones I linked above. They are well-designed, probably 30-40 hours of gameplay between the three of them, and best of all they are free.

I haven't downloaded any of the premium modules yet. My main problem with them was they didn't support epic levels (what I was interested in), and they were only 3-4 hours of gameplay.

Funny, thats what I'm doing too..

honestly, I like the lower level modules better.. balancing becomes messed up in the epic levels.. especially when you have your trueseeing haste freedom nonmindeffect 35 spell resist 30 resist fire 30 resist cold 30 resent electricity +10 regen blah blah armor.. :) But i'll give it a try.

I really liked the "al" series, Siege of Shadowdale, crimsontides, tyrants of the moonsea.. That will release the last of that later this year.. he was suppose to do a premium mod, but they pulled the plug on the premium mods.

I'm right now playing the shadowlords series.. 1-5.. and then there's another set done by the guy..

Im not big on epic levels aswell, I never liked them in P&N D&D and don't like it much in my videogames.

I actually create new characters all the time, I love starting as a low level. It creates more excitment because of the danger from almost everything. Playing MP on the hardest setting is also a blast since you need to control spell casting aswell as communicate all the time with your team and adventure together.

The fun in this mod is that it is actually difficult when you have those items. I'm a level 30 Champion of Torm and without those items you wouldn't even be able to survive. It is balanced quite well imho.

i just finished Tales of Aterra - The Lost.. This is one of the better modules out there! Great story line, and also one of the few, that emphasize other things besides combat to get experience.

awesome, I'll have to check that out.

I can't wait till NWN2.. I hope the modding community stays at least as strong.

And I also hope the premium module fiasco resolves itself for NWN2. I personally don't mind paying like $5-10 for an _excellent_ made premium modules.. Too bad for NWN1, alot of whiney cheap greedy people killed it. (or at least was a major factor) I don't think they understand that a really good premium quality module takes on the order of 100's of man hours... It literally is a full time job.

Sadly, I totally understand Burton's decision to bury his last unfinished module.

These user created modules, do they have sub-sub-sub-quests? I bought NWN when it first came out ($63!) and playing through the single campaign, I had to do so many sub quests and side quests that I didnt finish it, are these like that? If not I may install it again

IMO, the first original campaign did have a bunch of sidequests and stuff that seemed to be very loosely connected (at best) to the main story line. The later expensions were better..

Some of these user modules are really good though... better than the original stuff. I'm just going thru and picking and playing the highly rated ones..

I heard a rumor about one of the newer patches allowing 1st person ability? Is this true? I don't a "hack" I want an official patch for 1st person. Is it so?

No, theres no official 1st person view but they did at an official 3rd person view with the expansions. This adds a sky to the game aswell...

Yeah, this happened years ago buddy. There is a "hak" (all it does is modify the ini file I believe) that allows you to play the game in first person. However, I don't recommend it. It's very disorienting.

i believe the latest patches of the game pretty much gives you a 1st person pov.. you can position the camera like right above the characters head.

There's a place for 1st person. and 3rd person.. IMO, NWN plays better 3rd person.

Darkness over Daggerford

This module rocks. Cloaks, world map, influence.. I guess even a stronghold that you can build? I just started playing it, and its very well written so far. Looks pretty too, for the original NWN engine. and I could have sworn the day/night cycle changes while you play too (instead of immediatly switching between loads/rest).

I wonder if the work done here carried over directly to NWN2. I could have sworn i read some place that some of this premium module extras were ported directly into NWN2..
