even though I listen to country music, I was not a Johnny Cash fan. I have to say I am very impressed with his cover of trent reznor's "Hurt"

In the twilight of his life, the man knows he approaches his last breath.

with every passing day he reflect's on his life's mistakes.

you can hear the pain and regret in his voice and it gives new meaning to the lyrics.

so much raw emotion it makes you reflect on regrets in your own life.

its funny how you can give up something without realizing its real value and wake up one day seeing it all clearly.

We are witnessing a dying man's catharsis and the twilight of an American Icon..

i'll agree with that. The man in black has been lurking under the shiny surface of american pop music for decades and simply bides his time writing excellent songs, assembling A-list musicians to help him, and breathe new life into old standards.
I listen to maybe five country stars total, and Mr. Cash has always been in the pile of CDs.
What do you do when the best Nashville has to offer looks like Model Search on parade, or someone's gay cowboy fantasy come to life?
You turn to the man who put Slayer and Public Enemy on the map - Rick Rubin.
Who the hell is in control of Nashville trends anyway? The same guys who groom professional wrestlers for stardom?
Every time one of those shampooed poodles straps on a guitar and boots, the sheen practically drips off of the TV screen...
Time will forget those posers..Cash lives forever.

You should hear the rest of the album. Some really good songs on it.

Other covers on the album:
Personal Jesus - Depeche Mode
In My Life - The Beatles
Desperado - (can't remember who does it)
and a few others

Good stuff.

Nicely said. Cash is awesome, through all of his records. And it's no irony that I've sang the praises of Public Enemy, Slayer and Rick Rubin in the past. When Johnny Cash bites the dust, it will be a sad day. Unfortunately, country music has never been, and never will be, the same.

Desperado is a song by the Eagles, in case you hadn't remembered yet.

FYI yesterday or so was the 1st anniv. of Wayland Jennings' death... another man who bucked trends and lived his dream his own way... Completely anti-establishment... the man snubbed his induction into the country music hall o fame... mad props to a good old boy remembered :jammin:

This coming from a Soulfly/Nirvana/old-school KoRn fan...
