You won't be patient. You'll get something to tide you over and just eat the cost.

You know it. I know it. We all know it. Don't bother denying it. :)

Would it be worth it to get a e6300 when I have a Athlon 64 3200+? WOuld it be much of an upgrade? Even though the clock speed is lower, the L2 cache is over 4 times more and it is dual core. If I do upgrade, it will begin with the lowest one, the 6300, is it worth it or should I just stick with my 3200+?

In your situation, I'd just upgrade to an AMD X2 or FX cpu now with the price cuts. Might be cheaper then having to buy a new cpu + memory + mboard, ut if you have the cash by all means go C2D, it's much better.

According to the Anandtech article a couple days ago I think they sure think it would be worth it:

But the new mobo and memory are also factors to think about too.

This is a good one too:

Shows a stock and overclocked E6300 vs stock and overclocked X2 3800.

Now I'm not knocking you but WHY did you get a 6700???

I mean its only 0.27GHz faster for $230 more ......

Am I missing something here????

My exact thoughts.

Unless the stepping on it is somehow better and helps it overclock better, it's a waste.

At lots of the websites I've read about the E6700 overclocking 800MHz at stock voltage. For example the GotFrag.com article. Going straight to 3.4GHz without any effort sounds wonderful to me.:p Then with effort...well the possiblities look awesome!

My 6600 hits 3.5 with a minor overvolt, and 3.2 with no overvolt. I hope you get more than 3.4 for the extra $230!

Nice choice, nrdstrm. That's be the way I'd go right now. Damn.. 1100mhz overclock huh?

The E6600 definitely looks like the sweet spot, but I'm waiting to see how far people can push the 6300 and 6400 before making my purchase. The E6700 and above just seem like a waste of money, so I want to grab one of the cheap ones before Intel finds some way to limit their overclockability :D

The 6700 is useful because of the multiplier.

If you look at early Nforce590 reviews, they are only hitting about 330FSB. With an e6600 this will limit you to 2.9GHz, an e6700 will give you 3.3GHz :D
