View Full Version : Widescreen VGA for xbox360?

I am thinking of getting a small 1440x900 VGA LCD screen for use with XBox360. Will I be able to use it with High Definition Wide Screen modes? The only VGA monitor I've tried so far appears to simply be converting a TV signal into a standard VGA mode, which looks blury and low res.

Will you be using the VGA cable sold separetly or does the LCD allow for componet cables. With the cable you will be able to enjoy HD gaming. The max resolution with the VGA cable is 1360x768 and allows for you to choose if you want widescreen or not with certain resolutions.

I don't know if it's true but I heard that after market VGA cables that are not sold by MS offer a higher resolution than 1360 X 768.

Thanks for your quick replies. I have the official MS VGA cable for xbox360. The LCD monitor only has VGA and DVI-D inputs. Since it has a native res of 1440x900, does that sound okay? 1360x768 max for VGA sounds like it should work well.

If the monitor itself doesn't support that particular resolution, you'll probably be stuck at 1280x1024. I have this "problem" with my 2005 FPW. But 1280 works just fine. The screen stretches and the console automatically adjusts the aspect ratio. It's just like playing on an HDTV, without all that expense. :D

you can chose whichever resolution you like from those supported.

Thanks for all your comments. I bought the monitor and tried it with the xbox. Although the monitor's manual only lists a few modes, all the resolutions in the xbox system panel work. None of the resolutions are native to the monitor however, so I'll find out over time if that is bad.

The main reason I asked for advice is because I had an old PC LCD monitor and when I tried one other mode, the screen went blank and didn't come back on without resetting the xbox.
