I don't think it will be downsized, I think it might be more focused on games in the future.

Damn, that sucks. I never even got to go to one.
I hope they just keep it gaming related without canceling it. Have less booth babes and more games is probably what they need to do. (as Magus said)
noo.nooo.noooooooo :( Damit this cannot be true :(
THis is like hearing Santa tumbled down the chimney and broke his neck. No more Christmas.:( I bet Sony is behind this because of how bad E3 made them look so they said **** it we are not coming back and our key associates are not coming back. Small devs depended on it to spread news of there games and wouldnt get the time of day if it wasnt for E3. I hope they find away to make it happen. We PC gamers need E3 more than console gamers because there are alot of shows that will still happen for them. Now they can hide all there games good are bad to not get much criticism. EA, Sony you bitches.
This is bad particulary for small developers. Big companies can still organize their own events without having to race for attention and where lot of bull**** is fed to a carefully picked audience of *****s selling their ass for a preview... ehm, professional journalists.

I'll wait till they say it (wich looks to be tomarrow in a press release), though it does sound bad. They certainly havn't changed thier website yet....I also wonder what happened to thier agreement with LACC. I thought they had booked it a few years in advance. If that's the case, I'm guessing they will be paying some HUGE penalties...

Good news.
Err...Why is this good news. Most people (like Jakup and Myself), may not be able to cover the event for you all in the future if they make it really small (unless we weasel in as press, wich technically we are)....GRRRR...This SUCKS...

Well its better than having it all canceled.
BTW, check your PMs :p
Still better than being cancelled but it still blows. E3 is my Disneyland, I look forward to it every year, now I don't even know if I will ever be able to go again :(

What it also really means, is aside from the press, it's going to be very difficult for fans to gain access as before. They seem to really be pushing the fact that it's mainly a press event and will now be shown to small select groups. I also wouldn't expect huge coverage like before from G4 or Gamespot, they might tone that down as well.

The ESA has had this to say on the matter:
"The world of interactive entertainment has changed since E3Expo was created 12 years ago. At that time we were focused on establishing the industry and securing orders for the holiday season," said Douglas Lowenstein, President of the ESA, the trade association representing U.S. computer and video game publishers and the owner of E3Expo. "Over the years, it has become clear that we need a more intimate program, including higher quality, more personal dialogue with the worldwide media, developers, retailers and other key industry audiences."
"E3Expo remains an important event for the industry and we want to keep that sense of excitement and interest, ensuring that the human and financial resources crucial to its success can be deployed productively to create an exciting new format to meet the needs of the industry. The new event ensures that there will be an effective and more efficient way for companies to get information to media, consumers, and others," said Lowenstein.
Well, I am surely not retiring yet, I will make every effort to go to E3 next year.

What the game publishers and developers need to do is have a show for their general customers and not just the press.
Don't make it so hard for people to get in, I bet they would get more coverage and better ROI if they opened this up to their customers and the smaller online bloggers.
Hell they could even take advantage of the attendees and invite them in for focus groups.

Quite a lot of game developers are damned glad at the change from what I hear. The circus that E3 has become and the crazy pressure to have something to show no matter how far along they may be is something they are happy to see toned down. In the beginning it was intended to be a venue to advertise upcoming titles/public awareness.
Now with the widespread and easily available news sources online, it's no longer needed as much as it was (and has grown into a sideshow it wasn't really intended to be). In any case, I'm sure there will still be good things coming out of E3 or whatever they choose to call it. Happier industry people hopefully means better games for us and more evenly spread out announcements for interesting things.

Alot's changed, it's no longer called E3, they are now only allowing 5,000 attendees vs the original 60,000 and it will not be at the LACC but will be located in a hotel.
