Oh, no way. It's going to be at least another 2-3 months until production ramp.

Yeap it will re depend on the number of re-spins they need until they think they are good to go. Do we know how many (respins) the nV30 had?

At least 5. Seriously.

Could have just been metal layer changes for a couple of them though.

Doesn't each respin cost about $1,000,000 bucks.

Yes. Smaller means less heat generation due to less power consumption needs. This comparison only holds true if the two chips (the smaller one and the larger one) had the same frequency.

Obviously, the frequencies have been raised, requiring more power and thus more heat will be generated.

A poorly developed core will also generate lots of heat.

MuFu: Sounds good to me. Would Mid May be a reasonable target for limited retail avaibility, then? I'm not quite sure how much time you need from production ramp to retail... Never followed those numbers too much.
Also, could this 2-3 month wait be partly due to the fact that TSMC Low K yields might still be too low? So, instead of losing their time, nVidia is actually fixing a lot of bugs / reducing cost / doing PCB work / ... , maybe? Would make sense, IMO.

BTW, you said earlier than 2 ASICs were pushed back by a full quarter. Am I correct when I say one of them is the NV33?

is there any additional info available from those sources?
looks like nvidia is starting to produce more and more nv3x cards.....i mean they are about to announce not one,but 3(if i am correct) new products next week.
i hope that .13 process finally matured enough so they can get out with whole set of cards.

with so many new parts out there and with benchies on them we'll finally have some sort of insight in what happened to FX.
>>me wonders on clock speed and memory types on those cards compered to performance<<

Lol,maybe nv35 will be out earlier that nv30!!!

I think nVidia really has to sit down and think about their schedules. As it stands now, they are effectively one chipset behind.

So when the NV30 comes out, you're looking at the R350 (the chipset that previously should have been going up against the NV35) being the main challenger. The NV35 is then going to be coming up against the R400, again the wrong combination - It should be the NV40 there instead.

What are they going to do about it? If they were in line, nVidia would still be top dog, more or less, with each release. But now it looks like they're going to be behind for at least 3 releases, simply because ATi is releasing chips that were never meant to be competing with that particular generation of NV chips.

Unless ATi is delayed heavily somewhere along the line (which could happen), nVidia needs to consider a chip somewhere, else they're going to be behind for a considerable length of time. I'm aware that they risk losing millions doing so, but they risk losing even more if they're behind for the next two years. They can't sit there and pray that ATi slip up - they have to control their own destiny.
