View Full Version : Nv35 in summer and Nv40 this year!!!
Xbitlabs posted this (http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/story.html?id=1044985161) info.
It says that nv35 is to come this summer and will have 130mil trans and that Nv40 is coming this year and will have 150mil trans.

yeah, maybe NV40 will be paper launched ala the NV30 at Comdex and appear in....wait, no, NV30 still hasn't appeared

Sounds about right, except NV40 will probably be a paper launch to hold off some R400 sales and actually debut in spring '04.
350MHz is a little high for NV31. Projections detailed 400MHz+ but there have been so many problems that I really doubt it will be clocked at more than 300MHz unless they use "Son-Of-Dustbuster". :-\

Bah those meatheads got their Radeon 9900 info screwed up. I'd take info from the Inq over them at this point.
I think we have all had it with the PR-BS. We're do for some serious talk and numbers by NV before we go holding off on buying any products, especially considering these products are perform so well *cough* ATI. I dont' know about you guys but I get all tingly inside when I think about what the R400 is going to bring to the graphics front this summer. Can we say 10000+ 3dmarks. We'll I hope so, cause this 8500 is looking like a slide show from the 1920s.

the delays for the Nv30 didn't delay anything else from Nvidia. They don't make one chip and then another, they make a bunch at the same time. So that's probably right. Well only time will tell.

Yeah, they were able to produce 3 or 4 Quadro FX cards after they lowered the clockspeed from 400Mhz to 324Mhz.
lol :)
Hopefully they get something out soon or their market share will erode pretty quickly.
NV40? This year? Nah.
We *might* get a paper launch.
But seeing how much the NV30 paper launch has hurted nVidia, I'd sincerly suggest them NOT to paper launch the NV40.
As for the NV31...

Hmm. 350Mhz is still possible without a dustbuster. A traditional, but noisy and expensive, fan could do the job, no?
350Mhz would be a nice target: it would pretty much be sufficent to get Ti4600 speeds, and 300Mhz wouldn't be.
Or do you think the problems are so major that a powerful and expensive traditional fan would be insufficent?
NV34: That's pretty much on target with what I've been expecting.
To those people who thinks it's too big for a north bridge... I think you're way too conservative.
To get accurate figures to compare die size, you got to use the square of the process and multiply that by the transistor count.
The NV34, expected to be used on the nForce 3, is on 0.13, and features 45M Transistors. That means 0.0169 * 45 = 0.7605
The NV17, used on the nForce 2, is on 0.15 and features 29M Transistors. That means 0.0225 * 29 = 0.6525
The NV11, used on the nForce 1, is on 0.18 and features 19M Transistors. That means 0.0324 * 19 = 0.6156
That means that: The NV34 is 17% bigger than the NV17 and 24% bigger than the NV11.
Seems like too much? Not to me. Other parts of the North Bridge could become smaller, thanks to a die shrink.

Only Difference Between BitBoys and Nvidia is ... NVIDIA have a SH*TLOAD OF MONEY TO THROW AWAY  :D
BitBoys a poor conartists/bastards ;)
That is true. Nvidia also has also produced real cards.

total BS.
NV35 will be a 150M+ transistor chip. it'll be out in the summer or fall at the latest.
NV40 is a year 2004 chip even though it should have been out this year (but wont thanks to delays going back to 2001 with NV25) - the NV40 will prolly be a 250M+ transistor chip.

I can't see Nvidia fiting 250mil trans in 0.13.It will have to be 0.09 and that is still far away.

Ooh! Latest spin is back from the fab and 350MHz is back on the cards again. ;)
Still going to be slayed by RV350 I reckon - espcially when it comes to FSAA + AF.

Well, the ratio of transistors for the NV30/R300 seems to be +-equal for the NV31/RV350... And both probably include optimizations.
But the NV31 got less of a speed advantage. So, yeah, it'll probably get beaten by the RV350. Do you really think it's safe to use "slay", however?

From a price/performance point of view I think so, yes. They aren't quite aiming at the same target market (well - they weren't upon conception anyway), which swings it in ATi's favour somewhat.
I was basing my assumption mainly on the architectural differences between the two cards. RV350 may well be cheaper and faster in many circumstances, hence "slay". Probably too strong a word to use, sorry. I hope for nVidia's sake that I am wrong. :p
MuFu.
P.S. Ignore all the latest BS about NV35 having a 128-bit memory bus still. It doesn't.

Any launch date for NV35? ;)
As for RV350/NV31, well should be like GFFX/R300 no?
Mufu, any info on the memory freq nv35 will boast?
Well NV35 should have just taped out. Doing the assumed math results in an expectation of samples by May/June, but I think it'll be more like June/July for a launch. It *HAS* to be a good product to get them back inand I'm sure they'll want it available in quantity promptly, unlike NV30. One thing's for sure - it'll be a very expensive card to manufacture.
As for the memory - it'll use 128MB or 256MB of whatever DDR-II is most economically viable at the time of the launch. So most likely exactly the same memory that the NV30 is using at the moment - 500MHz 128Mb DDR-II BGA.
For 256MB cards they'll have to wait on 256Mb chips from Samsung (Q3 ramp I think).

i heard at beyond3d that the mx line of nv30 may not have a vertex shader units and other dx9 stuff. it seems nvidia was going to do again the same old **** like the geforce4mx..ok i know these are rumors but it wont be the first time either...
what do you think...???

Those aren't rumors; it's speculation.
My guess is that the NV31 will pretty much be just fine. It might need some software hacks, but nothing really important.
As for the NV34, I don't think nVidia will "cut" the VS or anything like that. They probably still got enough transistors ( with 45M ) to implement a fairly slow VS Unit, with a lot of software hacks to compensate for less functionality. Which would, of course, give very bad performance: probably barely on par with the CPU ( but it would give less stress to the CPU compared to no VS unit at all, which is a good thing )
Just my guess...
MuFu: Indeed, the NV35 specs seem very ambitious. $399 at retail seem impossible. Do you think $499 for the 128MB version is a reasonable bet?
