In the flash of the video

From the newest famitsu jap magazine:
-As far as background scenery is concerned, the game lets you destroy pretty much everything you see, from containers to buildings and cars.
-devs have a no pre-rerendered cutscene policy, everything realtime
-Mobile Suits can be damaged in the head, arms and legs. By destroying an enemy's arms, for instance, you make him incapable of attacking.
-strategy is key; by destroying a bridge, for instance, you can block off a path for tanks and other attack vehicles.
-game is 60% complete, next update coming sept 15th
-expected close to japans launch

Too bad it is still not clear from that footage whether we will see the intense lighting and destructable backrounds ingame or just in the realtime cutscenes.

It's ingame destruction.

"Destruction" is a key word for the new game. Players can destroy background scenery and other combat vehicles. Mobile Suits can be damaged in the head, arms and legs.http://ps3.ign.com/articles/722/722848p1.html

And the graphics should be the same ingame as well...

mmm.. looks good. This is another game that shows that the PS3 is truly next gen. the details in the robots are amazing. the enviroments looks good too . THe graphics looks like CG done by amateurs in 3d which is not bad. looking forward for this game . :)

Does the game have singleplayer and multiplayer?

Did you even look at the videos that Bad_Boy linked too? The game in no way looks next-gen.

I think it looks next gen, havent seen a PS2/XBox/GC gundam game that looks anything close to this. Of course not the best looking next gen game, but it does look impressive considering its a Bandai game.

Even I have to agree with nv40 this time, maybe you are seeing something else. Unless you would like to show us another gundam game that looks close to this on last gen hardware?

The mobile suits look amazing! World detail could be improved abit but dam do the robots look good. Most detailed mechs in any game yet...

Interview is up at IGN!

Best info comes at the end though... the game will release in Japan and the US at the same time! God I hope that means we will be able to use the Japanese Dubbing.

I'll admit when I'm wrong. Those screen shots do look impressive but the game play shown in the IGN videos leave alot to be desired.

The footage with the bland valley environment does feature strong realtime lighting - but the environment with the urban debris doesn't ... what's up with that ?

This screenshot of the E3 target renders shows the lighting difference. I'd be disappointed if they can't get that into the final game :thumbdwn:

What do you mean, all the new shots are real time.

Theres nothing overly impressive about that lighting that cannot be done in the game. The HDR is nice, but there are practically no shadows in that shot dispite all the sunlight. The real game has self shadowing, DOF, and HDR IIRC. I think it's just amount of detail with all the broken wood laying around, and the sense of scale that makes that image pretty impressive.

Ok, compare this realtime screen :

http://ps3media.ign.com/ps3/image/article/723/723525/mobile-suit-gundam-20060804022439059.jpg

with this target render :

http://ps3media.ign.com/ps3/image/article/614/614810/mobile-suit-gundam-20060117010840210.jpg

The lighting & AA is so much better in the target render footage.

* edit : yeah, well, there are shadows in that screen i showed. really , you'll spot them. But they don't look pitch black because of the HDR ; which would really tax the processing power some more.

Maybe I'm not seeing the tremendous difference in lighting (maybe it's the different times of day in the screens thats throwing me off), though your right the target render does look better. But the graphics look fine to me IMO, I think I'm more worried about the environment. It really looks void outside of that small city area, almost chromehounds like. And I hope they have been tweaking the gameplay since e3, which was pretty sluggish.

Game is only about 60% complete... certain parts still have alot of work to be done.
I hope they have a space level in the game...

Different game. Your thinking of Mobile Ops: The One Year War which wont have destructible enviroments nor will it have location based damage. The thing it will have will be out of mech combat which is interesting.
