the 13th race of the season, the Hungarian Grand Prix! :D

things may be falling into place for Ferrari as Renault will once again not use their mass-damper system, and, more importantly, Alonso, the points leader, will be penalized 2 seconds per qualifying session (making it difficult for him to even make it out of the first round). he was cited for dangerous driving when he forced the Red Bull car of Doornbus to take evasive action when Alonso tried to squeeze him off the road, and for passing a car under yellow. what was he thinking? is the pressure of the chase getting to him?

Schumacher is 11 points behind Alonso, so, as he tries for his fourth win in a row, Alonso will be hard pressed to compete for the podium. right now, Alonso must focus on limiting the damage Ferrari/Schumie will do to his lead, so that means no more craziness on the track. but does he really care? sure, he is being paid to race for Renault, and he must have pride in his craft, but he is leaving the team for McLaren, so perhaps his heart is not in it? it should be interesting to see how he responds to the penalty: ie, sulks and does poorly in the race, or competes and fights his way to the top of the grid for points or a podium.

Alosno denies that he is crumbling under the pressure of being chased by the best driver in F1: http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=36926

Friday practice results usually mean nothing, as most teams use this time to test different tire compunds and set-ups, but Massa was fastest, the Renaults were 2nd/3rd, and both Toyotas and BMWs were in the top ten. we'll have to wait and see if this trend continues for those teams:

Webber is out at Williams as his "heart was elsewhere" and in 2007, the team will have Rosberg and Wurz driving for them. so, Webber to Renault alongside Fisichella, and Raikonen to Ferrari to be paired with Massa, unless Schumie decides to stay, meaning that Kimi will likely stay at McLaren since i doubt he'd like playing second fiddle to another top driver: http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=36907

ah well, Schumie has been penalized for passing on a red flag in the Saturday practice session and will suffer the same penalty as Alonso, namely he will be docked 2 seconds on his fastest lap in each round of the qualifyng sessions. will either Schumacher or Alonso pull a McLaren and drive with a light fuel load in order to get to the top of the grid: http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=36939

Button will be penalized 10 spots for changing a blown engine. so it looks like the greatest driver in F1 (never to win a race) will still be looking for his first ever win, starting from the back of the grid: http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=36934

Kimi grabs the pole from Massa, who will star 2nd, with Rubens in 3rd (Button starts 14th, due to his 10-position penalty for changing the engine). the championship contenders, Schumie and Alonso, start 11th and 15th respectively.

de la Rosa managed to finish 4th in qualifying, with Webber 5th. Fisichella, in 7th, is the meat in a Toyota sandwich, with Ralf outpacing his team mate. also, both BMWs qualied in the top 10, with Kubica beating Heidfeld.

race day should be fun, as there are some really fast cars in the middle of the pack who really want to jump up the grid as quickly as possible.

the top 10:

1. RAIKKONEN (McLaren)
2. MASSA (Ferrari)
3. BARRICHELLO (Honda)
4. DE LA ROSA (McLaren)
5. WEBBER (Williams)
6. R.SCHUMACHER (Toyota)
7. FISICHELLA (Renault)
8. TRULLI (Toyota)
9. KUBICA (BMW)
10. HEIDFELD (BMW)

2 weeks in a row! (nana2) But, I fear the same as last week, a light load. And gotta give it up to Barrichello! A sentimental favorite!

2 weeks in a row! (nana2) But, I fear the same as last week, a light load. And gotta give it up to Barrichello! A sentimental favorite!i think Massa has the best chance to win his first race. something will happen to that Honda engine, ie, flame and smoke, as usual.

it rained overnight in Hungary and the track is still drenched with water. should be a fun start, judging by the GP2 highlights: http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=36954

Un-be-lie-va-ble!!!! The best driver in F1 (never to win a race) has won a race!!!! :DButton will be known, at least for now, as the best driver in F1 (to win only one race in 113 starts). ;) i thought the British announcer was going to keel over when Button crossed the finish line.

that said, good drive for Button, starting from 14th and getting the win. all three podium finishers are a surprise, with de la Rosa in 2nd and Heidfeld getting 3rd for BMW. a little bit of rain and water on the track really does make for an interesting event, as the two main championship contenders failed to finish. :)

what a wild and wacky day in Hungary: Button, after 113 starts, gets his first win, as well as Honda's first, de la Rosa finishes 2nd for McLaren, and Heidfeld is 3rd for BMW. where's Alonso and Schumacher? well, the points leader failed to finish when his drive shaft failed, and Schumie shredded his intermediates from overuse and didn't finish the race. but he still got 1 point. Kubica, in the other BMW, was DQ'ed for being underweight, so Schumie is now 10 points behind Alonso with 5 races left.

Rubens finished 4th, DC was 5th for Red Bull, Ralf in the Toyota was 6th, and Massa - Schumacher in the Ferraris were 7th and 8th. there were 9 retirements, which include both Renaults and Williams'.

Kubica's disqualification is Schumacher's gain: http://www.formula1.com/race/news/4783/763.html

in three weeks, the Turkish Grand Prix! :D

i wonder if JV will have recovered enough to participate? --- apparently not. he's parted ways with beemer.
