Very interesting notes .. esp these :
# id Software will be focusing on gameplay over graphics in their next unannounced title.
# id's next title will be a 3D action title that will be their biggest diversion since Wolfenstein.
# A more advanced version of the megatexture technology will be used in id's next title which includes lots of outdoor areas.
# While they will be developing their next game simultaneously on the XBOX 360, their primary development platform is still the PC.
# Their current project will include multi-processor support in both the console and PC platforms.
# id is branching out in a different direction for their new title which they expect to be a blockbuster.

oh & thanks for the update Burpy!!

I don't like his comments on the mod community... saying its slacking due to the difficulty of modding for recent games... maybe its not the games fault bu the developers for poorly supporting the mod community.

Games like HL2 and Oblivion are perfect examples of how the mod community is still strong as long as the developers of the game back them...

Yea I saw it in person yesterday night :D I thought it was really good! He also mentioned that unified shader architecture is neither better nor worse.

does this mean that rtcw2 has been officially outsourced to splash damage?

:( i was really hoping to play this game at some point.....

although at the same time, i remember id' saying that rtcw was something completely different and that turned out to be a pure gem, with this megatexturing and the d3 engine at its backbone, i can't wait to hear about this project that they are working on

<3 id'

as far as the modding comment is concerned, i felt like that comment was made more towards games like fear and others where the devs are making it difficult to mod. i mean like stated before, the modding community is huge, it's just that many of the newer games are basically not even giving modders an opportunity

The comment on the modding is prolly what he has mentioned before.
The level of detail is alot higher, which requires alot more work and alot more time to create content from.
Basicly you need people with higher skill requirements working harder to get a good mod out on a modern game engine where you do a "TC" sort of mod that isnt just rehashing existing content.
Preferably you build a several million poly highres model, generate normalmaps and build a lower res ingame model for that, you need to make more detailed textures and more types of them, and you may need to do this on most of the objects that goes in to the levels you need to build aswell, which in themselves are alot more detailed then back in the HL1 era.
And you got alot more advanced behaviors all over the place which is more programming work.. ofcource that is helped alot by predefined entities for map editors and welldocumented code and stuff like that..
But all in all, its a much greater effort today then it was with Quake, HL1, UT, Q3 and so on, especially the content creation side as I understand it.

Dude is such a nerd. He even has the high-pitch voice down pat...

I can't believe we all use to think he was a GOD back when Quake/Quake2 came out.

QFT! A true gamer should never hate on a guy like Carmack. He's been an instrumental part of gaming history for decades. Sure he might come across as a little nerdy but who cares? His game engines have supplied me with countless hours of gaming bliss and I thank him for it.

Glad to hear him talk about the diminishing returns in computer graphics. I've been thinking the same thing for a while now and hopefully devs will start focusing on things other than the technical side to make games look better. id can start with those low res textures in Doom 3.:)

Few people had actually heard him speak when Quake and Q2 came out.

The first time I heard his voice I couldn't stand it

What does his voice have to do with the crazy amount of achievements he's pioneered in video games and the fact that he can do things with hardware that most other people can't?
