Hi there.

Whilst updating the drivers for a friend's 6600, his system has completely died. The drivers were the latest versions from the Nvidia homepage, and he's running WinXP Home.

We ran the update as usual, rebooted the computer... and now windows won't start at all. When booting up, we get the "Windows failed to start" message, and if you select any of the options (even "safe mode command prompt") the screen goes black and the machine hangs. Anyone heard of anything like this happening with these drivers before? I presume it's the drivers, they were the only thing we ran before this happened. Thanks for any advice.

Please post complete system specs.

My guess would be hard drive. They can (and will) fail completely at random. See if you can download and create a bootable disk with the diagnostic utility from the hard drive manufacturer. Also, try booting off the Windows install CD and doing a repair of the installation.
